Introduction
Hugo Weaving is one of Australia's most famous actors. He graduated from the National Academy of Arts in 1981 and worked hard on the film and television stage. His most recent role was as Elrond, Lord of the Woodlands, in Peter Jackson's epic film The Dark Side.
Hugo Weaving was born in Nigeria in 1960. He is the middle of three brothers and sisters, with an older brother Simon and a younger sister Anne. A graduate of the Australian National Academy of Dramatic Art, this blue-eyed, unique actor first starred in the 1983 low-budget drama "Edge of the City" with social and moral themes. It is said to be the first Australian film to be portrayed from a sympathetic perspective. Videos of the harsh conditions faced by Aboriginal people.
In 1991, Hugo won the Australian Film Institute's Best Actor Award for his successful portrayal of the blind photographer Martin in the film "Evidence" directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse. The following year, he voiced the voice of a sheepdog in the film "Mutton", which gained further recognition from the audience. In 1988 he won the Australian Best Actor for his starring role in Craig Monahan's "Interview", and in 1991 he won the Hugo Award for Jocelyn Moore. Jocelyn Moorhouse's "Proof" won his first AFI (Australian Film Institute Award) Best Actor Award; in 1994, director Stephen Elliot's "Desert Monster" The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert finally brought him international fame and earned him another AFI Award.
