Kevin carter's photographic works
A year ago, kevin carter came to Sudan, an African country suffering from war, poverty and hunger, for an interview.
One day, he saw such a shocking scene: a skinny Sudanese girl couldn't walk any further on the way to the food relief center and fell to the ground. Not far away, a huge vulture is squatting, greedily staring at the dark, dying little life on the ground, waiting for the coming "delicious meal". Kevin carter snapped this photo. 1On March 26th, 993, The New York Times, a famous American authoritative newspaper, published this photo of kevin carter for the first time. Subsequently, other media quickly spread around the world, causing strong repercussions among people in various countries. This is a photo that won the Pulitzer Prize for Journalism.
The death of Kevin Carter is the result of the sharp conflict between journalists' pursuit of "good" news and "wonderful" scenes and social morality.
"Good" news and "wonderful" shots often mean that the media and journalists have a double harvest in fame and money. But sometimes improper handling can also cause public dissatisfaction. That is, in the case of kevin carter, after the photo spread all over the world, people showed great sympathy for the African people and paid more attention to the fate of the little girl. Thousands of people called The New York Times to ask if the little girl was finally rescued. At the same time, criticisms from all sides are endless, even after kevin carter won the grand prize. People have asked, why didn't kevin carter, who was at the scene, save the little girl? ! Even Kevin Carter's friends accused him of putting down his camera to help the little girl.
In fact, kevin carter himself was in the pain of conflict almost from the beginning. He really didn't want to see the extremely cruel scene after the filming, so he blew the vulture away. After a while, he saw the little girl try her best to get up and move to the rescue center again ... Looking at the figure of the little girl, kevin carter was full of contradictions, guilt and pain. He sat by a tree, smoking a cigarette and crying. Later, he once said to a person, "When I aimed the camera at all this, I said to myself,' My God!'" "But I have to work first. If I can't work as usual, I shouldn't be here. "
It is precisely because he can't stand the moral confusion and increasing mental pressure of the outside public and himself that kevin carter embarked on the road of no return only three months after winning the grand prize.
The death of Kevin Carter cannot but arouse people's deep thoughts. Suffering never stops patronizing mankind. There are droughts, floods, storms, sandstorms, earthquakes, and completely man-made wars, violence and vendettas ... Countless people have been displaced, separated from their wives and died of hunger and thirst. People are weak, and most of the time, fate is not in their own hands. Self-inflicted, solid can not be born; Evil deeds cannot escape.
Frankly speaking, we have got rid of famine, but on the other side of the globe, suffering afflicts countless innocent people. We must pay attention to it, sympathize with it, and give assistance if possible. This is a moral responsibility and the most basic humanitarian concern. In my opinion, this is the bottom line of human nature. But I have heard the news many times that "a country donated a plane of used and expired drugs to victims in a certain African country", and I really have nothing to say. How creative it is to insult human nature to this extent! By the way, at the same time of the great famine in Africa, there are billions of tons of water used to flush toilets in Europe every year, only a little more.
The photo "Hungry Little Girl" shocked me not only by the photo itself, but also by the author kevin carter. Two months after he won the Pulitzer Prize, he died of carbon dioxide poisoning in Johannesburg, which was an obvious suicide-he put a green hose on the exhaust pipe of the car and introduced the exhaust gas into the car. People found a note on his seat: "I'm really, really sorry for everyone." The pain of life far exceeds the joy. "
1993, Carter and his friend, another freelance photographer Silva, went to the northern border to film the rebellion of hungry Sudan. As soon as the plane landed, Carter began to film the hungry people. In order to relax himself from the tragic sight of piles of starving people, he went into the bushes. Then he heard a faint cry and a little girl was struggling to climb to the food distribution center. Just as he squatted down to take pictures, a big eagle landed in the camera. He waited there for 20 minutes, hoping that the eagle could spread its wings. After taking the photo, Carter drove the eagle away. Watching the little girl continue to stumble forward. Then he sat under a tree, lit a cigarette, read the name of God and burst into tears.
As a reporter, he captured suffering, lived in the scene of the story, repeatedly went in and out of life and death, and suffered numerous mental shocks and torture. He has a moral heart and regards the sufferings of others as his own, just as Lu Xun heard that Liu Hezhen was killed. When he was unable to change the world and escape mental pain, he had to commit suicide.
I have always shown great respect to people like Carter. I think their respect can be summed up in one word: fraternity, sincere fraternity.
