Usage and function of polarizer (using environment, scene and adjustment skills of polarizer)

Polarizer

Polarizer, also known as polarizer, referred to as PL mirror, uses the characteristics of polarized light to filter and eliminate the reflection of nonmetallic objects, water and other objects. The polarizer will not change the color temperature of the light source, but it can make the color of the subject more vivid after eliminating the reflection of the subject. Polarizers are divided into circular polarizers and linear polarizers. At present, all digital SLR cameras use CPL as polarizer. Common CPL brands include Toshiba, Gaojian, Gao Yan, Baogu, Nanxiang and Nikon.

The specific functions of the polarizer are as follows

1. Reduce the light intensity in the sky, increase the saturation of the blue sky, and make the blue sky bluer. At the same time, improve the contrast of blue sky and white clouds and highlight the details of clouds.

2. Improve the image clarity, texture and color saturation of bright spots on the surface of nonmetallic objects. For example, when shooting glassware, porcelain, fruit, water, and retaking photos and oil paintings, the use of polarizers can appropriately reduce or even completely eliminate the bright spots in the photos taken, thus restoring the lost details, layers and colors there.

3. Because the polarizer can reduce the exposure of 1~2, it can be used to replace ND2 lens.

Skills of using polarizer

1. Pay attention to the angle between the lens and the subject. For example, put a book with a smooth surface on the desktop near the windowsill, and when our line of sight is at a certain angle with the book, we can see the reflection of sunlight; When the line of sight is perpendicular to the handwriting, the reflected light will be weak. The function of polarizer is to eliminate the reflection of side angle refraction. When the polarizer is perpendicular to the subject, it will lose its function.

2. When shooting, look at the viewfinder and rotate the lens in front of the polarizer. The viewfinder has the most obvious effect when it is darkest, and can be adjusted to any angle between the darkest and brightest as needed.

In addition, the following principles need to be followed

1. Eliminate water surface reflection, preferably at an angle of 30 ~ 40 with the water surface, and the effect is obvious.

2. Please don't rotate counterclockwise when rotating the front lens. It's easy to close CPL.

3. To enhance the effect of the blue sky, never shoot against the light, or the sky will be gray.

4. Don't use polarizers for portraits of Tang people, which will cause the face to lose its three-dimensional sense.
