After the release of raiders of the lost ark, Steven Allan Spielberg decided to finish the last part of the trilogy to fulfill his promise to george lucas. Although "raiders of the lost ark" was a commercial success, with a global box office of over $333 million, Spielberg was always worried about depression when shooting the sequel. In order to direct this film, Spielberg turned down the invitation of the producers of Rain Man and Leap into the Future. The film started shooting on May 6th, 1988, with a shooting budget of $36 million. Shooting locations include Venice, Jordan, Australia, Germany and Colorado, New Mexico, Texas and Utah.
