Appreciation of martin parr's Works
Then I read a lot of Martin's works and couldn't help smiling at myself, feeling a little sad.
First, the complexity.
Looking at martin parr's works, the first thing that impressed me was the appropriateness of the complex composition.
There is a picture of the leaning tower of Pisa. In the foreground is a girl who is doing dramatic action. The deepest part of the picture is a row of people and houses, and finally the leaning tower of Pisa. This multi-level display gives this photo a sense of sight, and at the same time it is amused by embarrassing movements. I can't help but sigh how strong his ability to capture pictures is.
Second, black humor.
If it is only a picture, it is better to draw it directly. Like Degang Guo, Uncle Martin brought us funny moments through the cold screen.
A child is crying, and only his mother is thinking about coaxing the baby. The flustered mother and helpless baby are in sharp contrast with the people around them. A person wearing a green eye patch, lying in the sun, like Altman who just finished fighting monsters. A beautiful woman held two oranges in her chest, smiled unscrupulously and pretended not to shoot them.
There are many funny things in humor, which reveal human indifference. It is better to say that ordinary people with a straight face are the real protagonists than smart children and beautiful women with flowers on their faces.
They are like this, their eyes are dull, as if in a daze. What happens around them has nothing to do with them. They tried to laugh and held back, but I didn't hold back.

Come to think of it, what is Uncle Martin saying?
On the beach, most people pay attention to taking photos with their bodies or burying themselves in the sand to enjoy the beauty brought by nature. And uncle Martin doesn't care at all. His camera prefers to reveal the truth.
There is a thin man and a fat man. Fat people's big bellies make thin people leaner. They both smiled confidently. Fat people have power when they smile, and thin people have power.
In Trafalgar Square, ordinary people pay attention to white pigeons and pretend to feed these lovely creatures. Martin didn't pay attention at all. He observed the expressions of people's faces struggling when the wings of pigeons fluttered. He paid attention to the photos taken by several tour groups, and the back of the crowd was so pale and funny.
There is no distinction between beauty and ugliness in the world. The artist enlarged them, but Martin pulled them back like an angel of God. When someone criticized Martin's works as satire on human beings, he said that "human beings are ridiculous".
I think of Hegel's words: people often say that willfulness is freedom, but willfulness is only irrational freedom. The choice and self-determination of human nature does not come from the rationality of will, but from accidental motivation and its dependence on perceptual externalities.
An artist is a person who avoids conscious thinking. Martin is like this. He abandoned the framework of rational photography and saw the world with his own eyes. Perhaps there is no worldly beauty, but it is naughty and moving.
Maybe you will laugh at the fool in the photo, but please think it over. If Martin stands on the opposite side, are you like that?
