The School of Journalism of the National People's Congress is the first news education institution founded by party and government leaders after the founding of New China. It has been 52 years since 1955 was established. During this period, leaders and well-known professors of departments such as,, Yu Zhijun,,, Zhang Longdong, Lan, Zheng Xingdong, He, Qin Jue made important contributions to the development of the college and the discipline construction of journalism.
The School of Journalism of the National People's Congress is one of the first two departments in China to carry out master's and doctoral education in journalism. 1978 began to recruit master students, 198 1 opened master programs, 1984 opened doctoral programs.
Journalism is a traditional dominant major in the School of Journalism of the National People's Congress. 1988 and 200 1 were rated as national key disciplines twice, and passed the inspection and evaluation of key disciplines of the Ministry of Education successfully, becoming the only journalism department in China that won the key disciplines of journalism for three consecutive times. 1999 As the only key research base of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education in China, the Research Center for Journalism and Social Development of China Renmin University was established, and the School of Journalism of the National People's Congress became its supporting unit.
Since the implementation of the Tenth Five-Year Plan in 200 1, the discipline of journalism in the School of Journalism of the National People's Congress has been continuously included in the national "2 1 1" project and the "985" project, the hardware infrastructure of discipline construction has been greatly improved, and the comprehensive level of discipline has been significantly improved. At the beginning of the implementation of the Tenth Five-Year Plan, the School of Journalism of the National People's Congress established the discipline development strategy of "consolidating traditional advantages, innovating discipline system and achieving key breakthroughs". After years of hard work, great progress and a series of landmark achievements have been made in the construction of theoretical journalism, historical journalism and practical journalism. On the one hand, the two traditional advantages of Marxist journalism theory system and Chinese journalism history research have been strengthened and innovated. On the other hand, great progress has been made in the construction of basic news theory, the development of Chinese and foreign news history, and the research of frontier news business. In 2004, the Ministry of Education released the evaluation results of the national first-class discipline education level, and the comprehensive strength of the journalism and communication department of our college ranked first in the country, marking another solid step for our college to develop into a world-class journalism and communication college.
Second, the research direction and content
Journalism is a science that studies news phenomena and the laws of news communication activities.
There are three main research directions in journalism at the master's and doctoral levels: theoretical journalism, historical journalism and practical journalism. Among them, practical news includes news interview writing, news editing and news commentary.
1, the research direction of theoretical journalism
Theoretical journalism mainly studies the essential characteristics of news and various contradictions in news communication activities, as well as the position and role of news in social life, the social functions and characteristics of news, and the working principles, methods and general laws of news.
This research direction is the traditional advantage direction of this discipline, and it has long been in the leading position in similar disciplines in colleges and universities across the country. Over the years, the scientific research achievements in this research direction have set an example and demonstrated the innovative development of China's journalism. The main academic leaders in the front line of teaching and scientific research are Professor Zheng and Associate Professor.
2. Research direction of historical journalism.
Historical journalism mainly studies the history of the emergence and development of news publishing at home and abroad, as well as the history of celebrities and famous newspapers (magazines and Taiwan Province) at home and abroad. The background and conditions of news communication activities are discussed. The characteristics and laws of its evolution and development; And the status and role of celebrities and famous newspapers (periodicals and stations) in the development of the whole media industry.
This research direction has been in the leading position of similar disciplines in China for decades. The research direction brings together a group of famous professors such as Zhang Longdong, Chen Yeshao, Wang Taixuan, Fu Xianming and Zheng. The main academic leaders in the front line of teaching and scientific research are Professor Fang Hanqi and Professor Gu Changling, as well as two associate professors, Zhao Yonghua and Wang Runze.
3. Research direction of practical journalism.
Practical journalism mainly studies the applied knowledge of news business such as news interview writing, news editing and news comment. It discusses the skills, methods and general rules of news interview, writing, editing and commenting.
This research direction is also the traditional advantage field of our hospital. In the decades of development, a number of famous professors such as Lan, Zheng Xingdong, whose director Qin Xuan, Zhao Jingyun, etc. have gathered. Academic leaders in the front line of teaching and scientific research are Gao Gang and Tu.
Third, the professional training objectives
This major aims to cultivate senior journalism professionals who have both ability and political integrity, master contemporary news concepts, professional accomplishment and communication ability. Postgraduates must have a solid theoretical foundation of journalism, a wide range of knowledge, a high level of foreign languages, strong news business ability, scientific research ability and social activities ability, and be able to engage in news editing, news teaching and scientific research in news media, news colleges and news research institutions; Or engage in propaganda, public relations, secretarial and management work in party and government organs, enterprises and institutions and other related units.
Fourth, the teaching staff.
At present, there are 20 full-time teachers, 6 professors and 0 associate professors in journalism major of our college. In the academic echelon of this major, there are not only professors who are the main founders of journalism in China, but also young and innovative journalists such as Zheng, Gao Gang, Tu, etc.
Verb (abbreviation of verb) course design
Master's courses include the following categories:
(1) Basic courses: journalism theory research, journalism and communication history research, and communication theory research.
(2) Specialized courses: news interview writing research, news editing research, news commentary research, radio and television news research, news photography research, etc.
(3) Methodology courses: journalism and communication research methods, media research design and paper writing methods, media market analysis, etc.
(4) Elective courses: figurative communication, bestseller operation and management, cross-cultural communication, mobile phone media research, news ethics and regulations research, hosted communication, globalization and mass communication, media integration and advertising activities research, advertising economics, etc.
Elective courses for master students should be selected under the guidance of tutors according to the specific situation of each student, combined with the professional direction and the needs of thesis writing.
(5) Pre-courses: History of Journalism and Communication, Journalism Practice, Radio and Television Journalism Practice, etc.
With the consent of the tutor, master students can choose two undergraduate courses related to their research direction according to their needs.
Sixth, the whereabouts of graduates.
After graduation, most journalism students in our college are engaged in higher-level journalism, teaching, scientific research and management in news media, government agencies, institutions of higher learning and scientific research institutions, and many graduates have become the business backbone of their own units. In the selection of major awards in the national journalism field, such as "Fan Changjiang News Award", "Taofen News Award", "National 100 Journalists" and "China News Award", all the graduates of our college won awards. Some graduates also hold leadership positions in the Central News Propaganda Department and major news media. Some graduates who enter journalism schools become the backbone of teaching and research and academic leaders in their journalism schools, and many also hold leadership positions in their schools. Communication is a social science that studies the laws of information dissemination and media operation. The School of Journalism of Renmin University of China is one of the earliest institutions in China to carry out communication research and teaching. As early as 1950s, Professor Zhang Longdong wrote an article on communication in international newspapers. In the early 1980s, the School of Journalism formally offered communication courses in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and published a number of influential teaching materials and scientific research results. During the period of 1998, the School of Journalism was granted the master's degree and doctoral degree in communication, which became an important base for postgraduate training. The School of Journalism has the Research Center for Journalism and Social Development, a key research base of the Ministry of Education, the Institute of Public Opinion of China Renmin University, the Institute of Media Economics, the School of Journalism and Communication, the Research Center for Advertising and the Research Center for Crisis Communication Management. It has a group of well-known domestic scholars and tutors, providing excellent learning and research conditions for graduate students.
There are four main research directions in communication major:
1. Research direction of communication theory, including basic communication theory, Marxist communication thought, communication effect research, communication system research, crisis communication management research and other disciplines. Professor Guo, a member of the evaluation group of journalism in the State Council, is the author of the first national key textbook "Communication Course" in China. Professor Chen Lidan spans two fields: journalism and communication. His representative works "Theory of Spiritual Communication" and "Public Opinion" are the classics of communication studies in China.
2. Research direction visual communication, including TV communication and photography communication. Visual communication is one of the dominant disciplines of journalism school. Since 1950s, it has trained a large number of outstanding talents for photography and broadcasting in China, including the winner of "Jose" photography award. As a key construction project of "2 1 1" and "985", the Broadcasting and Television Broadcasting Center of Journalism College will be put into use soon, providing domestic first-class equipment and conditions for visual communication teaching and scientific research. Professor Sheng Xigui, a doctoral supervisor in this field, is a well-known scholar in the field of visual communication in China.
3. Research direction of new media. The School of Journalism started to offer online news communication courses from 1997, and in 2000, it set up a master's degree in online communication. The new media research carries out teaching and scientific research activities with the concept of "great communication and all-media", so that the discipline construction can constantly adapt to the development of media technology and the change of communication form. Professor Peng Lan, the doctoral supervisor in this field, is a winner of 100 excellent doctoral dissertations in China and is supported by the Excellent Talents Program in the New Century.
4. Research direction of strategic communication. Strategic communication is an important branch of western applied communication in recent years, and it is also the international frontier of communication discipline. Its research direction includes public relations, advertising, marketing communication, brand building and many other specific disciplines. Professor Zhao Qizheng, doctoral supervisor and dean of the School of Journalism, is a national image communication expert, and Professor Ni Ning, doctoral supervisor, is a well-known scholar in the field of advertising communication.
The training goal of this major is to cultivate compound news communication talents with solid theoretical foundation, reasonable knowledge structure, strong practical ability and high foreign language level. Graduates can be competent in news propaganda, public relations, advertising, media management, teaching and scientific research.
There are 8 communication professors and 3 associate professors. Strong teaching staff, reasonable age and professional structure, full of academic innovation spirit. Our college has close academic cooperation with many internationally renowned universities, such as the School of Journalism of the University of Missouri, the School of Journalism and Communication of the University of North Carolina, and the Information Science Center of the University of Tokyo. We regularly invite famous scholars to give lectures in our college to provide students with opportunities for international exchanges and cooperation.

Methods Courses include: journalism and communication research methods, media market analysis, media research and design, and thesis writing.
Basic courses include: research on the history of news communication, research on news theory and research on communication theory.
Specialized courses include: network communication research, public relations theory and practice, visual communication research, media economy research, publishing theory and practice, advertising theory and practice.
Elective courses can be selected from the courses of the whole school; Prerequisite courses include the history of journalism and communication, journalism practice, communication practice and radio and television practice. Cross-professional graduate students choose from them according to their specific research direction.
