The Institute of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (hereinafter referred to as Peking University Institute of Remote Sensing) was established in 1983. The construction of the department and research institute has been strongly supported by the National Remote Sensing Center, and assisted by the UNDP project and the Canadian International Development and Research Center (IDRC). It has a good cooperative relationship with international remote sensing institutions such as the Space Technology Application Department of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) (formerly RRSP Regional Remote Sensing Program). With the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Australia and other countries have personnel exchanges. We have established long-term cooperative relations with Malaysia, Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Italy and other countries. He has undertaken the international training tasks of the United Nations and the National Remote Sensing Center for many times, and trained a large number of professionals for developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region (such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, North Korea, Iran, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Mongolia and other countries).
The courses offered by the Department of Space Information Science and Technology (Institute of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System) for undergraduates and postgraduates mainly include advanced mathematics, probability theory and mathematical statistics, linear algebra, mathematical methods, computer principles, database introduction, data structure, programming, software engineering, computer graphics, geoscience foundation, remote sensing introduction, digital image processing, information system geography introduction, geographic information system engineering, geographic information system design, microwave remote sensing and aerial photogrammetry.
The undergraduate major of "Geographic Information System" aims at cultivating high-level innovative spatial information talents urgently needed in the digital and information age, and attaches importance to cultivating students' solid and extensive basic knowledge, theory and skills of spatial information science, and cultivating students' proficiency in the development and application of geographic information systems. Graduates of this major should have solid professional knowledge of spatial information science and technology (geographic information system, remote sensing, global positioning system, etc.). ) and related application background knowledge, master computer network and application program design and development technology, and be able to skillfully use geographic information system and remote sensing image processing system to solve practical problems. Graduates who pass the examination will be awarded the Bachelor of Science degree.
