Most bears eat all kinds of food, including grass, twigs, moss, berries and nuts. They also go to the stream to catch frogs, crabs and fish, dig mice and eggs, prefer licking ants, stealing honey, and even attack deer and lambs or feed on carrion. But polar bears are special. They mainly eat fish and seals. Bears are not very sensitive in sight and hearing, but their sense of smell is well developed.
Bears living in cold areas in the north hibernate, while black bears in subtropical and tropical areas often don't hibernate. Bears can hibernate for 4-5 months. If you are disturbed during hibernation, you will wake up immediately and occasionally come out of the hole. The cave where bears hibernate is usually chosen in sunny sheltered hillside or dead tree cave. Bears have no fixed habitat except during hibernation. Bears are solitary at other times except during estrus and mating. Female bears usually give birth to 1 ~ 4 cubs.
Bears are generally gentle, do not take the initiative to attack people and animals, and are willing to avoid conflicts, but when they think they must defend themselves or their cubs, food or territory, they will also become very dangerous and terrible beasts.
Ursus arctos, the most widely distributed brown bear in Xiong Ke, is distributed in most parts of Eurasia and North America, but the number is small. There are some differences in physical habits of brown bears in different places. Ursus arctos middendorffi, the largest Alaskan brown bear, weighs 600 ~ 800 kg, while the little brown bear weighs less than 100 kg. Alaska brown bear was once regarded as an independent species because of its huge size.
