New flagship evaluation of APS-C micro-single Sony micro-single A6500
However, A6000 has been released for some time, so this year Sony launched A6300, the follow-up product of A6000, which is further enhanced in function. Originally, I thought this should be Sony's only upgrade to APS-C micro-single this year. Who knew that A6500 followed A6300? If A6300 is a professional supplement, then A6500 is obviously full of imperial capital, and all aspects have reached the standard of APS-C flagship.
"advantage
1. The first APS-C5 axis anti-shake
2. 1 1fps continuous shooting +425

"buying guide
Judging from the positioning of this product, A6500 is more like an APS-C micro-single focusing on video. Although its photographic ability is very strong, if you are a photographer who pays more attention to still life shooting, A6300 is actually more suitable. After all, apart from the two main functions of five-axis anti-shake and touch screen, there is little difference between A6300 and A6500. Therefore, the launch of A6500 is more aimed at small video shooting studios or individual video users.
After all, the oversampled 4K plus S-log plus 5-axis anti-shake is really powerful. So I think this is indeed a benchmark product of APS-C micro-single, but video is still the strongest difference from other products.
First of all, the appearance continues to strengthen the strength of the classic fuselage.

Second, the picture quality is still excellent, and the sensitivity ISO3200 is available.
Sony A6500 adopts APS-C Exmor CMOS image sensor, about 24.2 effective pixels, thin wiring layer and large photodiode substrate, which can improve light collection efficiency. Using BIONZ X image processor and newly developed front-end LSI, the wide sensitivity range of ISO 100-5 1200 can be realized, and the definition of still images can be improved.
In order to let everyone see the most realistic and objective analysis effect, we also conducted a real shooting test in the standard environment in the evaluation room. We use standard light source, F8 aperture and ISO 100 sensitivity. After the shooting, we took 100% screenshots from four positions to observe the picture quality.
It can be seen from the image quality test that both the center image quality and the edge image quality have shown a good level, reaching the level of 24.2 million pixels.
In terms of sensitivity, from the test chart, the details of Sony A6500 in ISO 1600 are slightly reduced, but the picture is very clean. Before ISO3200, it can show a very good picture quality level. From ISO3200, visible noise appeared, and then the number of noise gradually increased, basically reaching the limit of ISO6400, and then the sensitivity was not recommended.
"Three, four-dimensional focusing+1 1fps continuous shooting is awesome.
4D focusing is a concept introduced by Sony from A6000. It has been pushed for many years, and it is still the main focusing system on this generation A6500. Compared with A6000' s original A4D focusing system, Sony has further improved the focusing speed on this A6500, reaching 0.05 seconds, claiming to be the fastest focusing at present.
I won't go into details about the 4D focusing principle here, because among all the mirrorless cameras, Sony 4D focusing system can be said to be the most reliable focusing system, and there is no one. However, the bottom focusing performance is good, and this still needs specific tests to feel it. So in the outdoor environment, we found a remote-controlled racing car and replaced this A6500 with a lens of FE 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G OSS. Switch to AF-C mode, select wide angle as the focus mode, and turn on the continuous shooting mode of continuous shooting with the highest speed of 1 10fps.
Although the remote control car is small, its speed can basically reach 20-30 km/h, which is much faster than ordinary cyclists on the street. In the actual test, Sony A6500' s focusing system has indeed maintained a very good level in identifying objects, which can ensure that it can automatically follow moving objects.
▲ The photos taken in the whole process can ensure that each one is focused on the object.
But here I also want to talk about the problems I encountered. Because the remote control car is very fast, sometimes it will be focused by the object when it follows the shooting, which is mainly reflected in the right edge of the picture, so the central focus is very efficient for identifying the object. Although edge has a similar "tailing" situation, when I actually look at the shooting proofs, I find that I still focus on the object. Of course, this level can satisfy me at present.
Earlier, we also found that Sony added a built-in cache to A6500, so although it seems that the continuous shooting level of 1 1fps is no different from the previous A6000 and A6300, the official promised to shoot in the high-speed continuous shooting mode (fine mode) of1frame/second for about 36 seconds.
In fact, during the real test, it is found that the image quality is in the "fine JPG" mode, and the longest continuous shooting time is about 3 1 second. A black screen appears after 365,438+0 seconds, and the speed drops obviously, which is slightly different from the official statement.
In the RAW format, the continuous shooting speed drops by about 16 seconds.
In the RAW+JPG mode, the speed drops by about 1 1 sec.
So in the fine jpg mode, we can get a continuous continuous shooting of about 30 seconds, which is absolutely enough for users who play with birds or even some sports themes.
"Four or five axis anti-shake blessing, my mother is no longer afraid of my hand shaking.
The biggest surprise of Sony A6500 should be that it is the first 5-axis anti-shake camera in APS-C format. 5-axis anti-shake is not the first time to appear on Sony's micro-sheet, but it is indeed the first time to appear on APS-C's micro-sheet, so Sony A6500 is also the first APS-C format micro-sheet equipped with 5-axis anti-shake function.
The mechanism of five-axis anti-shake is also two modes. ① A6500 without anti-shake lens is five-axis anti-shake of fuselage; ②A6500 with OSS anti-shake lens is three-axis anti-shake of fuselage and two-axis anti-shake of lens.
With 5-axis anti-shake, you can fully enjoy the fun of 5-axis anti-shake even if you play. We all know that Sony has been promoting FE lenses in recent years, so the number of high-quality lenses at E-mount is actually not much. If you consider the video orientation of this camera, it is likely to switch to other brands to shoot videos, so the addition of 5-axis anti-shake can only be said to make the A6500 even more powerful.
The official statement of Sony A6500' s 5-axis anti-shake is that it can compensate the shutter speed of about 5 levels at most, so we use Sony A6500, the lens is FE 16-35mm F4 ZA OSS, and it is 35mm (equivalent to 56mm). The safety shutter is 1/60s, and the fifth shutter is lowered to 1/4s. When shooting with one hand, basically the photo will be empty regardless of whether the anti-shake function is turned on or not. However, if the anti-shake function is turned on with both hands, about 70% of the photos will be clear when the fifth shutter is lowered to the limit, so the fifth shutter can be compensated as officially said, but it is also true.
The following video demonstrates the effect of anti-shake on/off mode when holding Sony A6500 with one hand all the time.
In short, although 5-axis anti-shake is not the latest technology, this function can really help Sony A6500 stand out among high-end APS-C format cameras. After all, SLR can't realize anti-shake technology of fuselage.
Verb (abbreviation of verb) "Touch function +4K video is more convenient and easy to use.
First of all, I really want to praise Sony for adding touch function to A6500. If you know A7 series, it should sometimes crash because there is no touch to adjust the focus. Sony A6500 is definitely a breakthrough. Of course, it's not just users of A6500 who are happy. These indicate the touch screen functions that we will definitely see on the follow-up models of A7 series in the future.
But at present, the touch screen function can only be used in the shooting interface, but it doesn't work in the menu interface. This may be due to the size of the LCD screen or the current density of menu options. In short, the menu interface can only be switched by turning the control panel, which is actually inconvenient.
In terms of 4K video, Sony A6500 adopts oversampling mode as the previous A6300, and can record 4K (QHD: 3840x2 160) 25P video in ultra-35mm mode. In Super 35mm mode, the camera oversamples a large amount of source information by about 2.4 times 5 pixels at 4K resolution by using full pixel reading, and generates 4K video.
However, Sony A6500 still needs an SD memory card of USH-I U3 level to shoot 4K video, so users need to prepare an extra USH-I U3 card.
But in the process of shooting video, we also found a problem, that is, we can't adjust the brightness of the LCD screen in video mode, because the visual effect will be good only when the screen is adjusted to the brightest in direct sunlight during the day, but we can't use this function when shooting video, which is really a bit incomprehensible. External monitoring and other equipment are recommended.
Another point is that Sony A6500 also has S-log configuration file. When shooting video, S-Gamut/S-Log can provide excellent color adjustment space for later stage. S-Log3 and S-Log2 provide a very wide dynamic range (up to 1300%) at the same time, thus reducing the hierarchical loss of white field and black field. After S-Log3 is set, it also provides an amazing tolerance of 14. Sony cameras also support color presets for S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3 movies.
The original screenshot of S-log mode video shows that the whole picture is very tolerant, with no highlight overflow and no dead black shadow.
It is very important for video photographers to simulate a good film sense by applying a LUT preset in the later software.
In addition, Sony A6500 has added a fast and slow motion mode. In full HD mode, you can choose the video frame rate from 1fps to 100fps according to your own needs.
