Why doesn't Canon g7x2 flash?

This light is the data processing indicator of Canon SLR camera.

When the camera has a battery, insert the memory card and close the memory card door. When the camera is turned on, it will automatically read the information in the memory card. When the camera reads and writes the memory card, the data processing indicator light will light up and flash with the reading and writing action. Basically, it can be understood as: once you read/write, the red light will light up once. Frequent reading and writing actions will keep the data processing indicator flashing.

The data processing indicator lights up for a long time, which may be caused by the following problems:

1. Long exposure

Use a camera for long exposure (for example, shooting under the stars). After pressing the shutter, the reflector will rise and the camera will start to expose. After exposure, the camera will write the shooting information into the memory card, and the red light will be on for a long time. After writing the file, if the camera turns on the "long exposure noise reduction" function, the red light will always be on, and the camera can't do anything at this time. If the shutter key is pressed, a "Busy" prompt will be displayed to wait. After the data processing indicator goes out, the data processing and storage steps can be completed before the next operation.

Shoot and watch videos.

60D and subsequent models can shoot video. During video shooting, data will be continuously written into the memory card, and the data processing indicator will flash until the shooting is over. When the tail of the file is completely written into the memory card, the indicator will stop flashing.

When watching a video file, because the data of the memory card is constantly read, the data processing indicator light will flash until the playback is terminated. When viewing a picture document, the data processing indicator will flash once every time the file is read.

In addition to the above two situations, it is more common that after the camera is inserted into the memory card, the data processing indicator light will automatically keep flashing without any operation. There may be several reasons for this:

A. insufficient speed of memory card

Canon EOS 60D only supports SD/SDHC/SDXC cards. In the past year or two, most of the SD memory cards we bought were high-speed cards. Take SanDisk, the industry leader, as an example. Common SD cards have several speeds of 95MB/s, 90MB/s and 80MB/s, which fully support various storage requirements. However, it is not excluded that some movie friends will use the early SD card as storage. When the speed cannot be guaranteed, after continuous shooting (especially continuous shooting in RAW format), the output data is too large, and the data processing indicator light may flash for a long time.

There are also some movie friends who may use SD card to cover Micro SD/TF card. Personally, I seriously don't recommend this method. Not only will the data storage speed slow down, but the risk of data damage is also great.

B. Bad habits of using memory cards

There are many movie friends who don't develop good habits and often don't clean up the contents of memory cards. Every time I shoot a file, I keep it in the card until the memory card is full and I can't shoot any more. Just remember to clear the memory card space.

There are also some movie friends who use the camera memory card as a USB flash drive and read and write files in various formats on different computers and operating systems. Even in Windows/OS X systems, files will be deleted to the Recycle Bin/Trash, but they will never be emptied. These behaviors lead to the accumulation of a large number of folders and files in the memory card that the camera can't recognize normally.

When the memory card is inserted into the camera, the camera must first identify the file system of the memory card, and then read the folder and file information. In //DICM, most camera photo files are stored in folders with different numbers. In addition, there is a folder dedicated to recording camera setting information under the root directory, which is //MISC for Canon. In addition, the camera system cannot recognize other folders. When there are too many folders and files, the camera needs to spend a lot of time reading and identifying them. In the meantime, the data processing indicator will flash until all files are recognized.

Generally speaking, the most common symptom is the above situation. So I suggest that every time you go home after shooting, you must take the trouble to back up the photos and clean up the memory card at the first time. If there is no reason to leave files on the card, it is better to format the memory card. Developing good habits will improve the efficiency of shooting.

C. Memory card is damaged

This situation is rare, even if it happens, it is rare to see the data processing indicator light flashing all the time. But it does exist. There is no good solution to this kind of thing, just change a memory card.

D. Poor contact of memory card

This situation is difficult to judge and can only be judged by replacing the memory card. Clean the contacts of the memory card, or go to a professional maintenance center to clean the contact 9 of the camera memory card bin.

One last important reminder, remember:

When the data processing indicator lights up or flashes, it means that images are being written to or read from the memory card, or images are being deleted or data is being transmitted. In the meantime, do not open the memory card slot cover. In addition, when the data processing indicator is on or flashing, do not take out the memory card or battery, otherwise it will damage the image data, the memory card and even the camera!
