Extremely complex and profound "transcendence"
This is a very strange movie: it is called "Beyond", which seems to be more indifferent than anyone else, but in fact the theme is extremely complicated and heavy; Looking at it with a healing heart, it is more depressing to see the whole person; On the surface, it is a difficult problem that teachers encounter in school teaching, but it reflects the plight of all mankind. This contrast from name to content reminds me inexplicably of a sentence in The Unbearable Lightness of Life: Only necessities can be heavy; It is really commendable that it is so heavy.
But in fact, "Beyond" made clear the theme of this film from the beginning:
This passage of Camus perfectly explains Henry's struggle and entanglement: the great contradiction between soul and self-existence-I seem to exist, but I don't seem to exist. I am just a bystander rather than a participant in my life. It's very much like the hero of the novel The Outsider, Musso. "My mother passed away today. Maybe it was yesterday, I don't know. " But in fact, Henry has been trying to get rid of this weakness, but in the end he let himself down and eventually became a wanderer in the ideological wasteland. He can't get rid of the shadow of grandpa hurting his mother. He also witnessed the students' self-abandonment and parents' indifference in the substitute school, and experienced the suicide of a girl who had a good impression on him, and could not even change the fact that the little girl he cared about would eventually be killed by AIDS. In the last scene of the movie, it seems that the classroom is deserted, but what is really deserted is Henry's heart. With Edgar Allan Poe's grotesque beauty, it is simply absurd.
However, as an educator, what moved me most about this film was the education-related content, which occasionally conveyed the idea that:
Seeing too many children not only failed to become talents because of improper parental discipline, but even had psychological problems. I really agree with this sentence. When some people give birth to children, they not only don't think clearly about their own lives, but even never consider whether they can be responsible for this little life. Sometimes, parents really need some thresholds.
There is also a high-energy part in the film: the teacher played by Liu Yuling couldn't stand the students' self-abandonment and finally collapsed, and said the famous saying "I don't care who can't, it takes courage to care". The most courageous thing in life is to care about yourself and the people and things related to yourself. After all, it is too easy to "lie flat" and take advantage of one's temporary advantages (such as being young), which often requires more courage and determination to be responsible for one's future. I really hope that every student who gives up himself too early in school can have such knowledge.
In a word, transcendence is a film with too much meaning. After reading it, my heart was filled with more depression than relaxation. Although it is not recommended for people who are not strong enough inside, it is indeed an excellent work.
