Historical development:

The history of Carl Zeiss Co., Ltd. began in Jena before World War II, when it was the largest camera product base in the world. Zeiss Ikon is an important symbol among many brands and manufacturers. After the war, Zeiss moved to Upper Cohen (located in southwest Germany) and Brunswick.

Since 1990s, some new technical branches have appeared in the companies of Zeiss Group in Dresden and its surrounding areas, such as industrial automation products. But Zeiss is still a camera manufacturer and continues to produce Pentacon, Praktica and some special-purpose lenses. Zeiss also owns Contax brand and some other international brands.
