Behind-the-scenes Production of Casablanca
Casablanca is adapted from the stage play Everyone goes to the Rick Hotel. The script of Casablanca was written by Julius Epstein, Philip Epstein and Edward Koch. In the stage play, the role of Irina Karp Tairova is an American named Lois meredith. It was not until her love affair with Rick ended in Paris that she met Victor Laszlo. In order to make Rick's motives more credible, the screenwriter decided to put the background time of the film before Pearl Harbor. Besides, Casey Robinson, who is not an actor, spent three weeks rewriting the script.
Role selection
Before shooting, Hal? Wallace is thinking about letting Heidi? Rama came to play the role of Ilsa, but because she is MGM's signing artist, the company doesn't want her to play this role. What about Heidi? Rama doesn't want to risk a movie with an unfinished script. 1942, Warner Bros. invited Ronald Reagan and Ann Sheridan to play the leading roles in this film, but due to script problems, both of them withdrew from the cast and were replaced by ingrid bergman and humphrey bogart. Before shooting, ingrid bergman's performance contract was owned by David Selznick, so Hal B Wallis, the producer of Casablanca, entrusted two screenwriters, Philip Epstein and Julius Epstein, to persuade Selznick to lend ingrid bergman out. After telling Selznick a story for about 20 minutes, Selznick finally agreed to let ingrid bergman play in the film.
Shooting process
Due to the shortage of wartime resources, most of the scenes in the film used Warner's old venue, and only Rick's Cafe was specially built for this film. Because the film was shot during World War II, for safety reasons, it was not allowed to shoot at the airport after dark, so the crew changed to the studio. The image of the plane is made of cardboard. In order to make the cardboard plane reflect the size of the real plane, the crew asked some short children to play the ground crew of the airport. Before filming the last scene of the film, no one knew whether Ilsa would choose Rick or Victor in the end. So during the filming, ingrid bergman asked the director whether it was Eric or Victor in the film, and the director told her to act like they both loved each other.
Film ending
1October 8th, 1942, 165438+ Allied forces marched into Casablanca, and the film is expected to be released in the spring of 1943. So the producer suggested changing the ending plot of the film to conform to the actual development, but it was rejected by Jack L. Warner, the boss of Warner Bros., because he felt that such a change contradicted the story background of the film. Finally, Warner Bros. finally compromised, and the producers began to prepare for the remake ending. But before Claude Rains left, David Selznick, the boss of Lei Ensi, previewed the film and urged Warner to release the complete film as soon as possible. Warner Company thought the plan was feasible, so it set the film premiere on June 26th, 1942+065438+.
