Lanxi has a long history. It has a history of more than 1,3 years since the county was founded in the fifth year of the Tang Dynasty (674). Lanxi is located at the intersection of Qujiang River, Jinhua River and Lanjiang River, with convenient land and water transportation and flourishing commerce, and is known as "the confluence of three rivers and the thoroughfare of seven provinces". Lanxi, with its simple folk customs and beautiful scenery, is rich in cultural relics and many scenic spots. It has a large number of tourist attractions, such as Zhuge Bagua Village, a national key cultural protection unit, the longest underground river in the country, mustard seed garden, the memorial site of Shakespeare and Liyu in the East, and Orchid Village, the hometown of orchids in China. It is an important tourist city in the southern line of Zhejiang Province. There are "three rivers, two mountains, two continents and eight scenic spots" in the territory. The beautiful scenery of Lanxi enchanted the literati of past dynasties. Lu You, Yang Wanli, Sadduce, Liu Bowen, Wang Shouren, Zhu Zun, Yu Dafu, Zhou Sanwei, Dai Shulun and Qiu Jin all left many famous poems in Lanxi. Lanxi Tourist Resort, a provincial scenic tourist resort in Zhejiang Province, has been launched, and in the near future, Lanxi will become a scenic tourist resort in Zhejiang Province.

Lanxi is also the hometown of celebrities.
