What is Hetian jade sugar?

Sugar refers to the dark, generally brown jade in Hetian jade. Sometimes called sugar color. (Note: Hetian jade mentioned here is Hetian jade in a broad sense, which is divided into Hetian jade, Qinghai jade and Russian jade. )

Generally speaking, the vast majority of sugar materials are mountain materials, and very few are seed materials and mountains and rivers. So there is no feeling of warm grease, and the color is dim. And there is no bright skin color, and the sugar color is brown and dull. Generally speaking, the price of sugar is lower than that of solid stone. However, sugar materials are often used as ingenious color carvings in post-processing, such as ingenious color application, ingenious conception, exquisite craftsmanship and high price.

Sugar, white sugar, brown sugar and yellow sugar are produced in Hotan, Russia and Qinghai provinces in Xinjiang.

Hetian jade is one of the "Four Famous Jade in China" (the third place is lantian jade in Shaanxi, Xiuyu in Liaoning and dushan jade in Henan). The traditional narrow category refers to the jade produced in Hetian, Xinjiang, which is famous for its "inferior material". Hetian jade in a broad sense refers to nephrite (real jade). Although Hetian jade is named after Hetian, Xinjiang, it is not a regional concept in itself, nor does it refer to the jade produced in Hetian, Xinjiang, but the name of a class of products. China named all the stones with tremolite accounting for more than 98% as Hetian jade, which are within the national standards.

When Qin Shihuang unified China, Hetian jade was called "the jade of Kunshan" because it was produced in Kunlun Mountain, and later it was called "the jade of Khotan" because it was located in Khotan. It was not until the establishment of Hotan Zhili Prefecture in the ninth year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1883) that it was officially named "Hotan Jade".

Hetian jade's famous product is "Empress Seal", a national treasure of the Western Han Dynasty, which is collected in Shaanxi History Museum. Its texture is Xinjiang Hotan sheep fat jade. It is the only empress seal of the Han Dynasty so far, and it is the first batch of cultural relics forbidden to go abroad. The emblem of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games "China Seal" is also made of Hetian jade in Xinjiang.

Hetian jade is a metamorphic rock formed by the contact between magnesium marble and intermediate-acid magmatic rocks, which contains tremolite, hornblende, actinolite and other mineral aggregates. Its chemical composition is hydrated calcium magnesium silicate, the chemical formula is Ca2(Mg, Fe2+)5[Si8O22](OH)2, the density is 2.95-3. 17, and the Mohs hardness is 6.

For a long time, there has been a great controversy in academic circles about whether Hetian jade is divided by origin or mineral composition. 20 13, 12, 17 and 20 14, 1, and the national standard GSB 16-3066544 was approved and issued by China National Standards Management Committee and National Standard Samples Technical Committee.
