The director of the Wellington line explained
When producer Paulo Branco asked me to make this film about the Napoleonic Wars, Raoul-Ruiz was already making preparations. At that time, in my opinion, the film could not be made. However, when I finished reading Carlos Saboga's plays, everything suddenly became clear: I discovered the Portuguese character, their fate in this conflict, their daily life and emotional changes. These made me accept the story with pleasure. What's left is the characters in the movie-men's characters and women's characters-people who suffer in the conflict. Of course, the photography of this film is also very important. After all, what I want to show is a grand war drama.
