In December 2016, "Journey to the West: My Country" started shooting, with 1,000 people in the early stage of filming and 1,500 people involved in post-production. The crew shot in many places in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Sichuan, and Taiwan, and built an exterior shooting venue covering an area of ??more than 65 acres and 11 built-in studios at the Wuxi Hualwood National Digital Film Industry Base.

In April 2017, "Do you know whether it should be green, fat, red and thin" entered the preparatory stage. On September 6, 2017, the drama officially launched in Hengdian, and the actors Wang and Sheng Hualan were announced on the same day.

On March 19, 2018, the crew started a three-day shooting at the Chongyang Palace in the Nineteen Peaks Scenic Area. On April 1, after 208 days of filming, the entire drama was officially completed.
