Pride and meanness are dangerous shortcomings; The way to learn is to have no distractions.
Confucius said, "Even if a person is as beautiful as the Duke of Zhou, if he is proud or stingy, it is not worth mentioning."
Confucius' idol is the Duke of Zhou, and the "Zhou Li" was formulated by the Duke of Zhou.
When Confucius praised a person, he often compared the Duke of Zhou. Confucius said that even if a person has the talent and ability of the Duke of Zhou, if he has two shortcomings: pride and meanness, then even if he has more other advantages, he is "underestimating". There is nothing more to say about this man, all his abilities are nothing to mention.
For a person who wants to come, if he has two qualities, arrogance and meanness, even if his ability is strong, he will be completely denied by Confucius.
The two shortcomings of arrogance and meanness are difficult to judge, because their scales are difficult to grasp. For example, self-confidence is a good quality, but if you are too confident, you will easily become arrogant; It is also good to have a bottom line and angular edges, but it is also easily misunderstood as stingy.
Pride is the name of love, meanness is the thing of love. The love of names and things is actually greed. Greed brings anger, delusion and a lot of pain.
Whether you love names or things, you are self-centered. Arrogance is spiritual, meanness is material. If a person is self-centered mentally and materially, even if he has great talent, the logic of the whole life will be disordered. In the end, he may become a headstrong person in Rainbow. Wang Mang has a talent comparable to that of the Duke of Zhou, and everyone even thinks that he is the successor of Confucianism and a saint. But he later implemented the New Deal, which made the whole country very confused. Why is this happening? Because of his strong self-awareness and fame and fortune, he did not integrate his own value with the value of the whole society.
It is a saint's tolerance to be able to do it without me. Even if we can't reach this level, we can try to jump out of the trap of paying too much attention to ourselves. When you consider the value of society, maybe everything will suddenly become clear.
Confucius said, "Three years of study is not rare. "
Confucius said, "It is hard to find talents who have been studying for three years and are not in a hurry to find a job, but continue to concentrate on their studies."
This sentence has different interpretations.
"Valley" is salary. In ancient times, wages were generally calculated according to Gu Mi, which was then called Mi Lu. The first explanation means that if a person has studied with me for three years, he has not been a civil servant and has not eaten, such a person is rare.
This explanation is not Confucius' style at all.
The second explanation is that such talents are hard to get if they are studious, have no distractions, do not study hard and make money, and have been studying for three years. This explanation is more reasonable.
In The Analects of Confucius? In Gongye Chang, it was said that "the son made seven carved officials", and Confucius hoped that Qi Diaokai would be a civil servant and work for rice. I'm not ready yet, said Qi Diaokai. I don't think I have reached the level I should have. I should practice again. Confucius greatly appreciated it and said yes. It can be seen that Confucius is very happy, because Qidiaokai is not in a hurry to earn wages!
In this way, these two contents will be combined into one. As we mentioned earlier, in the era of Confucius, Confucian scholars were a profession, including both gentleman Confucianism and villain Confucianism. Confucianism regards writing letters to people, organizing weddings and funerals for people, and announcing ceremonies at weddings and funerals as a skill to make money, which is called villain Confucianism.
Confucius wants everyone to be gentlemen and Confucianism, that is, to take the world as their own responsibility and hold the ideal of benevolent government.
In fact, many students who followed him to learn the ceremony of Confucian scholars at that time, a large part of the purpose was to find a job. I hope to study for two or three years, be recommended to a good place and earn some money.
Confucius said that it is not easy for a person to keep the Tao and learn. Confucius did not deny the value of the villain Confucianism, nor did he think that it was not good to earn a salary as an official after studying. Confucius just said that it is rare to be willing to stick to his original intention of seeking and learning Taoism.
