March 21 is the second day of the second lunar month. "On February 2, the dragon looks up." For the fishermen and salt residents in the coastal villages of Mashanzi Town, Beihai Economic Development Zone, Binzhou City, this is a solemn day. They must worship the sea and pray in front of the Dragon King Temple on Jiling Island.
At 9:10 in the morning, the sea worship ceremony has not yet begun, but there are already many fishermen and salt residents in the Dragon King Temple worshiping and praying. In addition to coastal residents, there are also many citizens who come from surrounding counties. Every year on February 2, local residents rush to the Dragon King Temple to hold a Poseidon worship service to express gratitude for the gift of the sea and pray for good weather and prosperity in the fishing and salt industry in the coming year.
Due to tidal erosion and the inward relocation of fishing villages, the Dragon Temple was once destroyed. On December 16, 2007, Zhang Rongqiang, chairman of Huitai Investment Group, who lives in Beijiao Village, Mashanzi Town, invested in the newly built Dragon King Temple and completed it on Jilingzi Island. Since then, fishermen and salt people have resumed the tradition of offering sacrifices to the sea at Longwang Temple. After a burst of gongs, drums and firecrackers, the Sea Festival finally kicked off. At the sea sacrifice ceremony, fishermen and salt people bowed devoutly, thanked the sea for their growth, and sailed for the harvest and happiness in the new year with their prayers and faith.
"Fishing", commonly known as "opening the sea", is a traditional folk custom that Mancang fishermen have prayed for for thousands of years to pray for the safety of fish. For a long time, fishermen in Beihai have spontaneously held traditional cultural activities such as praying to the sea and dancing on the day the sea opens. This is the first time in history that such a large-scale concentrated event is held this year! Jie Meijia holds the fish lantern high, which means that lovers in the deep sea will light up their way home. Sail with the wind and return home safely is the simplest hope of all fishermen.
I hope all Beihai people going out to sea are safe~
