A brief introduction to dancers' films
10 On June 4th, Turkey's largest GoldenOrange Film Festival closed in Antalya. At the 48th Kumquat Awards Ceremony that night, a film about homosexuality, Zenne, was a blockbuster, winning four awards, namely, best debut, best cinematography, best supporting actor and best supporting actress.
The award-winning film The Dancer is adapted from a true story. One of the main characters in this movie is based on Ahmed Yildiz, a 26-year-old gay man who was shot dead in 2008. The murderer accused of murdering Yildiz is his father. It is said that because Idiz was gay, the father killed his son for the purpose of "maintaining the family reputation". In September 2009, the Istanbul court tried Idiz's father in absentia, but the trial had to be shelved because the defendant allegedly fled Turkey.
