Nepalese teenagers who buy beer
That was four years ago, but to me, it is more vivid than what happened yesterday.
That summer, I spent more than ten days in the Himalayas and a village in Nepal called Doraka, taking photos. In this village where families are scattered on the hillside at an altitude of 1500m, the so-called modern lifelines such as water, electricity and gas have not yet extended here.
There are more than 4,500 people in the village, but there is no driveway that can communicate with other places. The only mountain road that can be taken is always cut into sections by mountain streams and rapids. Because the wheelbarrow can't be used, the villagers can only walk with things on their backs within the scope of physical strength. Whenever I wonder why the haystacks move, I look intently and find a thin body of a child under the piles of corn stalks.
As an outsider, we feel the inconvenience of traffic. From the bus station to the village, we hired 15 people to carry equipment and food, and the extra things had to be thrown away. The first thing to give up is beer. If you want to be addicted to alcohol, bring some whisky. So the four of us brought six bottles of whisky, which is estimated to be enough 10 days. However, whisky and beer have completely different functions. When I finished filming in a sweat, facing the clear flowing river, I couldn't help but sigh, "Oh, how cool it would be if I put the beer in the river to cool it down." At this time, Chetri, a teenager in the village, turned to ask the translator, "What is that man talking about?" Knowing my wish, the child's eyes lit up and said to me, "I can buy beer if you want."
Where to buy it? ""just Ricote. "Just now, Ricote is the mountain where we got off and threw beer. Even adults have to walk for an hour and a half. " Is it too far? ""no problem. Come back before dark. "He is full of energy. So I gave him a small canvas bag with money and said, "Thank you. If possible, please buy 4 bottles. "Chetri happily ran out and came back with five bottles of beer around 8 o'clock. Everyone applauded excitedly to celebrate.
The next afternoon, Chetri went to the photography scene to watch the fun. He saw me and asked, "Don't you want to drink beer today?" "Yes, it's just that you work too hard." "No problem. Tomorrow is also a rest, and I will buy you a lot of' Star' brand beer. " As soon as I was happy, I gave him a canvas bag bigger than yesterday and money to buy more than a dozen bottles of beer. Chetri was more energetic and skipped away. However, that night, Chetri didn't come back. I asked the villagers if anything would happen to him, and they all said in unison, "You must have run away if you gave him so much money. With such a sum of money, it is no problem to go to Kathmandu, the capital. "
Chetri, 15 years old, lives on the hill opposite this village and usually goes to school in Doraka. There is a bed in his hut, and there is only a mat on the bed. He eats his own curry rice every day and studies hard. After he put two spices and peppers together and ground them with stones, curry was cooked with vegetables.
The next day, Chetri still didn't come back. On the third day, it was already Monday, and he still didn't come back. I went to school to explain the situation to the teacher, who kept saying, "Don't worry, it will be fine. I took such a sum of money and probably ran away. " I regret that I gave him a "huge sum" and missed the life of such a good child. However, I would rather harden my heart and believe that something has happened.
I've been fidgeting for three days. Late at night, someone suddenly knocked at my door. Alas, when I opened the door, Chetri stood outside. He was covered in mud and his clothes were wrinkled. Chetri said that just because Ricote had only four bottles of beer, he climbed four mountains to another mountain, where he bought enough 10 bottles, but he dropped three bottles on the way. Speaking of which, Chetri showed me all the broken glass in tears and took out the change.
I hugged his shoulder and cried. For a long time, I didn't cry like that, and I didn't reflect deeply and comprehensively. (Excerpted from China Success Information)
