Five Immortals (folk legend of Wuyang City in Guangzhou) detailed information

The legend of the Five Immortals originated from Chinese folk. "Five sheep carry grain and gather it in Chu Ting." Chu Ting is now Guangzhou. Years of famine and barren fields in Guangzhou alarmed five immortals from the South China Sea. The five immortals rode five-color sheep to Guangzhou and brought the grain to Guangzhou. A story that bestows blessings on hard-working people and bless the people to live and work in peace and contentment. In order to commemorate them, later generations built the Five Immortals Temple at the place where they descended. Basic introduction Chinese name: Five Immortals Time: Ancient times (folklore) Guangzhou is also known as Wuyang City, Yangcheng, and Suicheng. These aliases come from the beautiful legend of "Five sheep carrying ears of grain in Chu Ting". Folk legend: During the Western Zhou Dynasty in 860 BC, the Guangzhou area suffered from successive years of famine, and the people were in dire straits. The cries of hungry children and the shouts of adults floated to the clouds, alarming the five immortals in the South China Sea. Five immortals dressed in five-color clothes, riding five-color fairy sheep respectively, holding six ears of grain, descended on the city. They gave ears of grain to the hard-working people and blessed the people to live and work in peace and contentment, so that there would never be famine in this place. After the five immortals left, the five immortal sheep who were attached to the human world turned into stones and stayed in Guangzhou. Many people know the legend of "Five Immortals and Five Goats" and it is widely circulated. However, not many people know about the fact that the Five Immortals left fairy traces in Tianhe and still leave place names to this day. There is a Wuxianqiao Station on Xinghua Street, north of Shahe in Guangzhou, now Guangcong Highway. There used to be a bridge on the hillside northwest of the station, which was made up of five bluestone slabs. Legend has it that this was the place where the Five Immortals descended to earth and stayed. When five immortals first came here, when they encountered a stream blocking their way, the immortals each threw their handkerchiefs to form a stone bridge. The immortals rode sheep and walked across the bridge until they entered the city of Guangzhou. Later, people called this bridge "Five Immortals Bridge" in memory of the Five Immortals. This bridge was destroyed in the 1970s because the stream dried up. The immortals came here and saw a mountain that was shaped like a white cloud, so they called it "Baiyun Mountain". There is another mountain in front of Baiyun Mountain, which looks like a thin dog lying down, with its head, tail, body and feet all vivid. If you stand on Baiyun Mountain and look at it, this dog is even more skinny, and you can even count the ribs. The immortals called it "Shougouling". The immortals were sitting and chatting in front of the mountain, and suddenly they asked, "Which is heavier, Baiyun Mountain or Shogouling?" The immortals argued endlessly, and finally found a scale to weigh it, and the result was that Shogouling was heavier than Baiyun Mountain. Later, people called the place where the scales were placed "balance rack".
