Since 1996, in view of the lack of film education in Iran, Musen temporarily gave up the film industry and started to teach in Makmabaf Film House, which injected a brand-new force into Iranian film. Makmabaf Film House is a school and a studio, where students can not only read scripts, learn film theory, but also make movies. At first, Musen asked his daughter Milla to be an assistant director and his son Mei Sen to be a photographer. Later, they gradually developed their own films, which are truly "film families". At present, almost all the films of the Makmabaf family are produced by father Musen and eldest daughter Sasha Milla in turn, and some of them are created collectively. Musen hopes that all members can realize their creative ideas step by step according to their own views and make the works full of vitality.
Movies are mirrors, not windows.
The Makmabaf family continues the mission and spirit of Indian director satyajit ray who regards movies as' mirrors', and rejects unrealistic songs and dances, fights and love plots in Hollywood and Bollywood. They think that movies are a mirror reflecting the real society and soul, not a window to escape. Therefore, their films are all based on real life, and I hope that actors can integrate their life experiences into them when performing, so that dialogue and reaction can happen naturally and be closer to reality. He wants to convey to the world the gloom and gloom that the public can't see on TV on weekdays through movies.
Mark Mabeuf's film will not have a complete script. They think that when you have a perfect script, all the questions are answered, but when you only have an outline, you must find the answers to the questions in the process. At this time, all the staff can join in the creation. Before filming, no one knows how the story will end, and everyone will grow with the story.
Another feature of Mark Mabaf's films is that they don't tell the audience what is right and what is wrong. They want to present all aspects of things in movies. An Iranian proverb says, "Truth is a broken mirror in God's hand, and everyone has taken a part of it. They think that the audience can say that I like A or B, but they can't arbitrarily say that there is only one truth in the world. For the Makmabaf family, movies are a way of communication between people, even between people and the world and between gods.
