Essay "The River in My Hometown"
There is a river in front of my house. There are two rows of straight poplars on the river bank. There is a narrow road leading to the mountain village in the middle of the poplar. The dam of the river is paved with bluestone slabs, and lush green water plants grow on both sides of the wide river.
Every spring comes, the river is like a little girl who just woke up, full of vitality, flowing happily with broken ice fragments, playing wonderful notes, singing out of the village, rushing to the fields, irrigating fertile land and gestating children from all directions.
After the spring rain, the old poplars enjoyed the dew in spring, spit out many new leaves on the bare branches, and the grass and wild vegetables in the field all drilled out of the ground. So we children will carry baskets to dig wild vegetables in the fields on the other side of the river, and clusters of green women will stretch their waists and dig with knives in the spring breeze, and a complete woman will be dug down. Small garlic is buried deep in the soil and has a thin neck on its head. We have to dig deep into the soil with a shovel. Dig the soil soft first, and then gently pull it out by hand. A little white head with a beard appears in front of you. Put it in the basket and you will soon be able to dig half a basket. Take the dug wild vegetables to the river, immerse the whole basket together with the wild vegetables in the water, hold the basket beam in one hand and gently shake the wild vegetables in the water in the other. Soon a basket of clean, watery, white and green wild vegetables was born.
Every summer at noon, the sun is like a big fireball, baking the earth mercilessly. There is no wind in the air, and the weather is extremely sultry. Therefore, people go out of their homes and come to the river with dirty clothes to clean and enjoy the cool, while children follow adults to bathe and play in the river.
This river is like a big washing machine. There are stone piers to sit on and green slates to wash clothes everywhere by the river. You can find any one to sit down, then soak those little clothes in water and rub them gently on the slate. Big clothes can be dragged by two people and soaked in water. In order to prevent clothes from being washed away by water, the four corners of clothes are first pressed with stones, and then the clothes are washed out by the river and flow to the lower reaches of the river. The clear water in the upper reaches of the river is repeatedly absorbed by the clothes, so that the clothes are washed clean. Then carry the washed clothes to the grass on the river bank, and after an afternoon of wind and sun, the clothes will dry.
This river is also a playground for children. For the sake of safety, young children must never leave their mother's sight. In order to make children have fun, adults will give them a small handkerchief or a sock to wash and play by the water. Sometimes if you are not careful, small objects will be dirty by water and washed clothes, and adults will shout loudly and let them play in the water below. However, these children didn't listen at all, so the angry adults had to throw water at the children with their hands. Not to be outdone, the children poured pots on adults. At that time, the whole river was filled with laughter from children and adults.
We older children will stay away from adults, first take off our clothes and pants, wash them with water, hang them on the river bank, and then soak our naked bodies in the river to wash them. This is called bathing. In fact, we just get together to play. You push me, I carry water on you, fall down, get up and continue to be crazy. When we are tired of playing, we go to the shore and lie on the bluestone board heated by the sun.
The river in my hometown is clear and transparent, and small fish swim from time to time. The main fish are squid, loach, silver carp and crucian carp. Whenever we are free, we children will go fishing in the river with small fish baskets.
I rolled up my trouser legs and walked barefoot into the river. I stepped on the fine river sand, and the river kept flowing under my feet. It's cold, itchy and greasy, especially comfortable.
Soak the small basket in the lowest place where the grass is dense, and then lift it quickly. Many small fish will be caught in each basket and put in the fish basket. If you are lucky, you can catch half a basket of fish in one afternoon. After returning home, the small fish will feed the big cat at home, and mother will clean up the bigger fish, marinate it with a little salt, and then fry it in oil until it is butter-like. A bite is crispy and delicious, with endless aftertaste.
In autumn, the river flows quietly and slowly, occasionally encountering stones and splashing countless waves, slowly breaking the calm of the water surface. The poplar leaves on both sides of the river turned yellow and hung on the trees like small yellow flowers in full bloom. A gust of autumn wind blows, and pieces of yellow leaves fall in the air, like yellow butterflies, falling in the river, like a golden boat, carrying my childhood dreams to that distant place.
I remember that late autumn, my husband got acute icteric hepatitis and was bedridden. Although he has been taking medicine and injections, jaundice has subsided slowly. I don't know who sisters heard that eating live loach in the river can get rid of jaundice. So, in late autumn, my sisters put on their boots and went down to the river with ice ballast to catch loach fish. Although every time I put my hand into the water, my hands will be red with cold, but my sisters still caught three bottles of loach fish in the cold river and brought them to us by car. I told my husband to close his eyes, and then I took three or four live loaches with a small colander and poured them into his mouth, and I kept eating them every day. Soon, my husband recovered miraculously. ,
In winter, the river will be thick with ice, which is the happiest time for our children. Every time after school, my brother and sister and I will take ice carts, ice cones, gyroscopes and whips to play on the ice.
When I was a child, the top was made of wood. The top of the gyro is a small cover with a thin neck in the middle, which is used for whipping. There is a radish-shaped belly at the bottom and a pointed tail. A polished ball pressed on the tail.
After coming to the ice, the two brothers wound the rope on the whip around the gyro, then put the gyro on the ground, gently pulled the whip rod with their hands, and the little gyro would fly on the ice, and then kept beating with the whip, and the little gyro would turn faster and faster, and the more it turned, the happier it became. Seeing my brothers playing with their hands, I always wanted to try, but when I got it in my own hands, I couldn't turn it after playing, or I collapsed after a few turns. Simply return the gyro to the brothers and play the ice car with my sister.
We have a skating competition because there are more children playing and fewer ice carts. If we win, we can continue to play on the ice skates. If we lose, others will take our place. First, draw a starting line on the ice, in groups of four, and then the contestants sit on the ice car, holding an ice pick in their hands, shouting, waving the ice pick, and you chase after me and slide forward. Whoever gets to the front first is the winner, and can continue to participate in the next round of competition, while the three people behind make room for others, and everyone can play.
Sometimes, we will sit on the ice car and be pushed and slid by others. Every time people push the ice cart, they will send it forward with all their strength, and then the ice cart will fly out, and the people sitting on it will feel very high.
In winter, if you are curious to knock on the frozen river with a small hammer, there will be small fish swimming in the small gap. They came out to breathe fresh oxygen.
