"Highlights" and "shadows" in photography have the same meaning as "highlights" and "shadows" in makeup. Roughly speaking, the highlight is the brightest part of the object and the shadow is the darkest part of the object. All the cameras we use are photosensitive elements, but all the photosensitive elements have their own photosensitive range. When the brightness of the light source in the shooting environment exceeds this sensitive range, the photos we take will be overexposed and underexposed, which is equivalent to "highlights and shadows".
