How to use Nikon D5000

Nikon D5000 basic user guide

Use of reversible display screen

Flipping the screen gives a professional image to DC consumers, but it often sacrifices portability. The flip screen used by digital SLR is mostly Olympus model (Sony's flip screen can only be flipped up and down, not left and right), and Nikon D5000 can be said to be an attempt. D5000 is the first SLR model with flip screen in Nikon, and there are many things to pay attention to for users who are used to using Nikon SLR.

Nikon D5000 uses a flip LCD with a lower rotating shaft. The design is similar to that of Panasonic telephoto camera FZ50, which can be turned up and down 180 degrees, and the LCD rotates 270 degrees clockwise according to the rotating shaft. This design ensures the framing in all directions, and it is not difficult for low-angle shooting and flipping selfies. With rich live view, there will naturally be better performance.

Nikon D5000 does not use the left and right rotating shafts, mainly retaining the original buttons on the left, but this design is still a bit insufficient, that is, if a tripod is mounted for shooting, the side shot and self-timer will be blocked. Another disadvantage is that the area of LCD can't be very large, and 2.7 inches has reached the limit. However, the screen can be turned over, and the display can be closed when it is taken out for protection.

Introduction of Nikon D5000 HD Video Shooting

Nikon D5000 is positioned as an entry-level digital SLR, and has not surpassed Nikon D90 in HD video shooting. It also adopts the specification of 1280×720/24fps (progressive scanning). It can be said that Nikon is still a bit small compared with Canon's digital SLR supporting 1920x 1080 full HD specifications.

Nikon D5000 video shooting has three specifications, which need to be set in the secondary menu. Press the LV key to enter the live view mode in the boot state, and then press the OK key to control the start and end of video shooting. During shooting, focusing and zooming need to be coordinated manually. In addition, sound effects can also be set.

Introduction of Nikon D5000 live view function

Nikon D5000 has an LCD that can rotate at multiple angles, so it will be more fun in the live view function. Adjust the LCD to an appropriate angle, and then press the LV button to enter the live view mode. After entering the live view mode, you can see that the screen can display very complete shooting parameters, which can be completely operated like ordinary DC. In addition, the focus can be enlarged many times, which is convenient for manual focusing reference.

It is said that Nikon D5000 is like an ordinary DC, which is also reflected in its common functions of face recognition, tracking and focusing, which take care of beginners of digital SLR. The LCD can also choose how long it will automatically turn off in the live view state, thus avoiding the power loss caused by overtime work.

Nikon D5000' s Rich Late Application

Compared with Canon, Nikon digital SLR often has many post-retouching functions, which is one of the more playable aspects of Nikon digital SLR. From the initial "D-Lighting" and "cool animated short film" to the later RAW processing, the author has been witnessing the development of Nikon in this respect. Functions such as filter effect, correction, distortion control, fisheye and perspective control can also be found in the latest D5000.

The filter effect simulates the real filter that the old film friends have always had. In the later stage, all kinds of changes can be completed by pressing a few buttons. When shooting the lighting effect, you can use the cross starlight filter to make it produce starlight effect. When shooting portraits, you can use the soft light filter to create hazy beauty, and there are countless interesting places. The fisheye function can create a certain exaggerated deformation effect through its own adjustment, which is very useful for enhancing the momentum of photos or satisfying your love for super wide-angle lenses.

Perspective functions, such as adjusting the introduction and display of pictures, can suppress the photos taken in trapezoid from all directions, and can add some special effects such as architectural shooting. Amazing animation shooting can combine multiple continuously changing photos into a GIF animation. In the past, when video SLR didn't appear, there was still a certain market, but I believe this function is no longer practical.

Shoot the scenery with Nikon D5000.

Taking landscape photos has always been the strength of Nikon cameras. Its shooting feature is suitable for direct film production, and Nikon D5000 also has this feature. However, compared with the CCD sensor used by Nikon SLR in the past, the D5000 uses CMOS, so the color is slightly dull compared with the CCD model.

Aperture: F5.6 shutter:1/80seconds ISO:200.

The optimal aperture of Nikon D5000' s 18-55VR lens is between F5.6-8, so this level of aperture is often used when shooting. Surprisingly, Nikon D5000 looks a bit like Pentax model (dark color) in metering accuracy, so many photos are taken with exposure compensation function. Explain how to set the exposure compensation function first:

Nikon D5000 has no auxiliary LCD, so a lot of information is displayed on the LCD on the back of the machine, and there is no shortcut key to adjust exposure compensation. First, press the exposure compensation button near the shutter in the boot state, and then turn the turntable to adjust.

Nikon D5000 also has reverse dial adjustment function, which is convenient for users. Here is a brief introduction: Nikon and Canon have always been opposed to each other in the way of rotating the turntable or lens disassembly. Users who are used to using one brand camera will often not adapt to this reverse design when switching to another brand, so now Nikon has a custom rotation direction, which is a good improvement.

Shooting scenery is generally suitable for wide-angle shooting. When we set the mode dial to the aperture priority, we can change the aperture setting through the mode dial. Generally, adjusting the aperture in a medium size can best show the sharpness of the lens.

Nikon D5000 takes landscape photos in standard mode, and the color is not very exaggerated. If you want the shooting effect to be suitable for direct filming, you can directly select the landscape optimization calibration setting.

D-Lighting function is a technology owned by Nikon's new digital camera to improve the photo tolerance. For ordinary landscape shooting, you can get more tolerant photos by using automatic D-Lighting settings, which can avoid the loss of highlights and dark details.

Automatic distortion control can reduce the distortion of the lens itself and make the photos more horizontal and vertical, especially suitable for shooting buildings. Of course, if we want to use this deformation to enhance the momentum of the photo, this function will be turned off.

Aperture: F4.5 shutter: 0.02 second ISO:320

The light is not good when taking the above proofs, so the shutter speed is not high. Generally speaking, the author prefers to turn on the anti-shake function often when shooting scenery, which can still help when the shutter is slow but I don't know it.

Take a macro with Nikon D5000.

The average user uses Nikon D5000, which is equipped with a set of lenses, so the macro shooting skills are mainly based on the characteristics of the headgear. The lens of digital SLR is different from ordinary DC. Generally, ordinary DC can focus at the nearest distance at the wide-angle end, while the nearest focusing distance of digital SLR lens is the same all the way, so there will be the best magnification at the telephoto end.

Aperture: F5.6 shutter:1/60seconds ISO:320

If you take a picture with a professional macro lens, the aperture is generally not suitable for full opening, but the magnification of the ferrule is limited, so it is still possible to take a macro with a full opening aperture.

Take macro photos and adjust them carefully to get the best results. First of all, you need to turn off the anti-shake function of the lens to avoid affecting the image quality. Then rotate the lens to the telephoto end to get the maximum magnification.

Try to use a large aperture in the choice of aperture, but if you want to ensure sharpness, it will be better to use the maximum aperture to reduce half a grade (about F5.6). After these preparation steps are set, you can enter the shooting stage. Pay attention to the focusing mode. At this time, it is best to choose manual focusing, and the observation of human eyes will be more accurate.

Click the LV button to enter live view mode. In this shooting mode, we can operate like a normal DC and preview the shooting effect. Because Nikon D5000 uses a reversible LCD, we can try to use its special function to match different macro angles.

When selecting the AF area mode, we need to select an optional AF area mode, so that we can change the focus position through the navigation key. In terms of metering mode, using central evaluation metering is more suitable for shooting macro objects.

In order to avoid too many bright colors, we can adopt the standard color mode. When it is difficult to confirm the accuracy of manual focusing, we can enlarge the observation focus, which can better ensure the accuracy of focusing.

Aperture: F4.8 Shutter:113 sec ISO:400.

Because the magnification of the lens is not very high, macro photos will still be taken on some larger objects.

Shooting low light environment and night scene with Nikon D5000

Low light environment and night scene shooting, if only hand-held shooting, can only develop to high ISO and large aperture. But if you want to ensure the picture quality and create, you can't do without a tripod. Let's take a look at how to use Nikon D5000 to shoot low-light environment and night scene proofs.

Aperture: F 13 shutter: 1.6 seconds ISO:200.

The combination of motion and static can create many dreamy pictures, which are difficult for our eyes to observe. In order to successfully take such photos, you need to make the following settings.

First of all, make sure to have a sturdy tripod that can bear the weight of a digital SLR. After wearing a tripod, of course, you should habitually turn off the VR anti-shake of the lens and turn on the shutter delay function. In addition, we can also turn on the exposure delay mode, which is what we often call the automatic pre-rising function of the reflector, so that the shooting stability is more guaranteed. In the choice of sensitivity, we can consider developing to low ISO. The lower the sensitivity, the better the image quality, whether shooting in low light environment or taking photos at night.

Matrix (average) photometry should be selected as the photometry method, but exposure compensation should be made according to the field light conditions.

Night shooting, the color is more complicated, but it is not a very special environment. We can still trust the automatic white balance of Nikon D5000. Finally, we need to adjust the shooting mode to manual so that the initiative of shooting is more in our hands.

Aperture: F4.5 Shutter:1100 sec ISO:

Shooting in low light environment is sometimes hand-held, so the selection of ISO should be properly controlled, neither too high nor too low (too high will cause obvious noise, too low will cause blurred picture). If we can't get accurate color reproduction by using automatic white balance, then we can also use manual white balance or various types of preset white balance. Aperture: F 1 1 shutter: 3 seconds ISO: 100.

I remember that one principle of night shooting is that the smaller the aperture, the more obvious the star-awn effect will be, but the shutter speed will often be longer, so shooting should find a balance point and try several times to find the best effect.
