Why is Chenyang Town in Sheyang County called Chenyang Town?

Before the Tang Dynasty, Chenyang Town had a vast territory. In the second year of the Southern Song Dynasty (1 128), after the Yellow River entered the Huaihe River, the seawater retreated eastward, the silt was exposed, the coast continued to move eastward, and Chenyang Town gradually became land. Chenyang Town, which forms the land, is a natural breeding ground for animals and plants. The harbors are criss-crossed, and the ponds are full of lobsters, reeds and grass, rich in aquatic resources and numerous in birds and animals. Rich natural resources attracted farmers in the west wing of Yanfu. Together, they came to Chenyang to fish and hunt, mow grass and graze. From the third year of Kangxi in Qing Dynasty to the first year of Yongzheng (1664- 1723), Chenyang Town began to be inhabited and gradually formed an immigrant village. There are many immigrants named Chen, who lived on the high pier near Tangyang, so during Guangxu period, people from all walks of life called them "Chen Jiayang".

Historically, Chenyang Town belongs to Old Funing County, Jiangsu Province, and is the ninth district. In the early days of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Yang Chen was occupied. 1942 after the establishment of Sheyang county, Yang Chen is the seat of Sheyang county Committee and the political, economic and cultural center of Sheyang county. 1952, due to the development of the situation, the county party Committee moved to Hede Town and established Chenyang District. Hongfeng People's Commune was established in September of 1958, renamed as Chenyang People's Commune in September of 1959, and established as an organizational town in September of 1984, named as Chenyang Town.
