Huanglongxi, an ancient town in western Sichuan with a history of more than 1,700 years, is located in Shuangliu County, about 30 kilometers southeast of Chengdu.
In Huanglongxi Ancient Town, there are many buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties that are still well preserved. The streets paved with bluestone slabs, the pavilions and houses with wooden pillars and green tiles, and the exquisitely carved railings and window lattice all give people a simple and peaceful feeling. There are also six large banyan trees in the town, each of which are over a thousand years old. Their lush branches and leaves cover the sky and the sun, and they are powerful and thick, adding a lot of aura to the ancient town. There are still three ancient temples in the town, Zhenjiang Temple, Chaoyin Temple and Gulong Temple. The winding old streets are deep and winding. There are many small restaurants on both sides of the streets. Most of them have a wine flag with a blue background and white letters floating in front of the door, something like "鱼香子". "," Lu Huitou", "Tangsu Shop", etc. are constantly dancing in the wind to attract customers. The stone-ground bean curd in the ancient town is very famous, and almost every family makes it, but each has its own characteristics. After walking through a street, I saw another alley. The smooth bluestone road under my feet, the black and shiny door panels, and the antique signboards gave off a strong sense of antiquity.
The most distinctive feature of the ancient town is its teahouse. On both sides of the road, on the river embankment, and under the bamboo forest, there are bamboo tables with the word "一" spread out, bamboo chairs, bamboo stools, and colorful Sun umbrellas have become an attractive scenery in the ancient town. A bowl of tea costs two or three yuan and can last for a whole day. Especially for the elderly, walking in the restaurant early in the morning and drinking tea at the same time does not cost much, but it is a leisurely and elegant enjoyment.

There are many houses with a fusion of Chinese and Western architectural style elements. This is why Yuelai Ancient Town is different from other ancient towns. special features.
The scenery of the town is very simple. In the lower section of Yuelaizheng Street, you will see a row of ancient and low walls. Shangli Ancient Town was an important stop on the Southern Silk Road in ancient times and was also an important stop on the Linqiong Ancient Road entering Ya'an. Shangli is located at the intersection of the two rivers. According to folk legend, the ancient town is surrounded by mountains and rivers, with pastoral hills, wooden houses, stone-paved streets, and 18 hills represented by the "Eighteen Arhats Chao Guanyin". The eight ancient stone bridges have a long history and different styles.
The first thing you see when you arrive at Shangli is the "Shuangxiao Festival" archway built in the 19th year of Daoguang's reign. It has four pillars and three bays. The stone carvings on the spine are tall and delicate; there are more than 20 groups and hundreds of drama character stories engraved on the beams. The archway is a relic of feudal etiquette. It was built to promote the Han family's "never lose one's virginity, never change one's behavior, and be filial to one's parents and parents-in-law throughout one's life." . The stone archway built by Yang Han's mother-in-law and daughter-in-law in compliance with the imperial edict is a testimony of the restraint of women by my country's feudal system and is also a masterpiece of my country's stone carving art. There are still three stone archways in this province. There are the "Shuangjie Xiao" stone archway, a national-level protection unit, and the Chen family's "Nine Generations Cohabitation" and Chen family's "Chastity" archways, which are municipal-level cultural protection units.
There are more than 10 ancient and modern archways above. There are ancient bridges with different styles. The most beautiful one is the "Erxian Bridge" built in the 41st year of Qianlong's reign in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is a stone arch bridge with the characteristics of the Jiangnan water town, with a tall, round shape of the clear river. The bridge openings are unique. There are two stone bridges, one high and one low, across the Lunxi River at the entrance of the town, which have become the main transportation routes in and out of the town. The high bridge mainly passes vehicles and pedestrians entering and exiting the town, and the low bridge passes through them. You can turn around and walk along the riverside under the high bridge. The high and low bridges cleverly form an "overpass" system.
There are buildings with exquisite craftsmanship, the most famous one. It is the courtyard of the Han family. The doors, windows, beams and eaves of the entire building are decorated with reliefs, hollow carvings and inlaid carvings, which are of extremely high value and exquisite craftsmanship.
The Han Family Courtyard was built in his hometown by Han Tingfan, who was an official abroad during the Daoguang period. It was built based on the official residence in the capital at that time. The entire building is composed of seven quadrangle patios, also known as "Seven Stars Holding the Moon". The courtyard has a clear layout and exquisite wood carvings can be seen everywhere. It is worth mentioning that the wooden windows in the courtyard are exquisitely carved, rich in content and diverse in shape, and have been highly praised by experts.
When traveling to Shangli Ancient Town, you must visit Baima Spring, 8 kilometers north of the town. Baima Spring is an interstitial spring with a water temperature of about 15 degrees. Chengdu-Hongya can take the bus at Xinnanmen or Shiyangchang Station. Shiyangchang is recommended. Take the expressway immediately after departure to save time when leaving the city. And all cars departing from Xinnan Gate will stop at Shiyangchang. At least once an hour. As for Jinsha, at Ximen, I’m not sure if there is a direct train, but it should be the fastest and closest to Shiyangchang. The ticket costs 35-38 yuan, depending on the car type. It takes 2 hours from Shiyangchang to Hongya. There will be a transfer bus to Liujiang as soon as you get off the bus, so you don't need to enter the station. The bus will start in about 10 minutes, although you will have to stop and go while soliciting passengers along the way. The ticket costs 6 yuan and can reach Liujiang in one hour. The bus going to Gaomiao or Wawushan also passes through Liujiang. You can check with the driver before getting on the bus. There is a bus to Hongya from Xinnan Gate at 7:25 in the morning. I don’t know the earliest bus from Shiyangchang. The latest train departs from Hongya at 5:25 in the afternoon. 2-3 hours is enough time to visit Liujiang. If you don’t go to Gaomiao, you can go back and forth on the same day.
