What's the difference between "English" and "English (tourism direction)"?

I majored in English (Tourism). When I first applied for a job, English was the only major. I didn't expect to be assigned to the Tourism College when I got to school. English in our school has three directions: tourism English, business English and English language and literature.

Tourism English is a specialized course, just like English in other directions, but public courses are all about tourism, such as international tourism and culture, China tourism resources and so on. And business English courses may set up courses in international trade, and language and literature courses are British and American literature, linguistics and so on.

School is different. Although some of them are written directly in English, they may be subdivided. I suggest you call the school admissions office, especially the specialized foreign language colleges. If there is no subdivision, then "English" is probably English language and literature.
