In early April, the provincial government ordered the Yibin Caravan Guard to dispatch two regular battalions equipped with mortars, led by Liu Wenhui's division chief of staff and Yibin County Magistrate Shen Meisun, together with Gongxian, Changning, Jiang'an, Xingwen, and Junlian Thousands of people from militia groups in counties such as , Xuyong, Gusong and other nearby towns and villages gathered at the foot of Lingxiao Mountain to encircle and suppress the workers' and peasants' revolutionary army. The Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army in southern Sichuan blocked the enemy and repelled several attacks. The fierce fighting lasted until June of the same year. After losing foreign aid and running out of food and ammunition, they had to break out of the encirclement in a bloody manner. Only a few team members succeeded in breaking through.
