What should I do if my Canadian visa is refused?

Applicants who are rejected will receive a written explanation of the reasons for rejection. Once you get these written instructions, your avenues for appeal are limited.

Sponsors of family members and permanent residents applying for travel documents to return to Canada may choose to appeal their visa denials to the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB)’s Immigration Appeals Division (IAD). Instructions on how to appeal are provided with the denial letter. Appeals may be based on factual, legal, or equitable factors.

The Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) does not accept appeals from visa refusals for skilled immigrants, business immigrants, and temporary residents (visitors, students, or workers). Applicants in these categories are advised to resubmit their applications after significant changes in their circumstances.
