Anning City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Kunming City, Yunnan Province, is located on the eastern edge of the Central Yunnan Plateau, with a total area of ??1,313 square kilometers. Anning is 32 kilometers away from Kunming. It is an important transportation town connecting Kunming to 8 prefectures in western Yunnan and directly connected to Myanmar via Wanding. On April 20, 1950, the Anning County People's Government was established. In October 1956, Anning County was renamed Anning District of Kunming City. In September 1959, it was renamed Anning.
