What are the neighboring provinces and cities around Anhui?

There are six adjacent provinces and cities around Anhui, namely: Shandong Province, Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province, Jiangxi Province, Hubei Province and Henan Province.

Anhui, referred to as "Wan", the provincial capital Hefei, is located in the east of mainland China and belongs to the East China region, between 114°54′-119°37′ east longitude and 29°41′-34°38′ north latitude. During the period, in 1667 AD, Jiangnan Province was established as a province due to its east-west division. Anhui is named after the first characters of "Anqing Prefecture" and "Huizhou Prefecture".

Anhui Province is one of the important birthplaces of Chinese prehistoric civilization. Relics of human activities dating back about 2.5 million years ago were discovered in Renzi Cave, Fanchang County. The "Hexian Ape Man" site from the Paleolithic Age 300,000 to 400,000 years ago excavated in Longtan Cave in Hexian County shows that humans have lived and multiplied in Anhui in ancient times.

The 400,000-year-old Hualong Cave, known as the "Zhoukoudian" of Anhui, was excavated in Dongzhi County, and the Shuangdun site of about 7,000 years ago was discovered in Bengbu, which is currently the middle reaches of the Huaihe River. The earliest Neolithic cultural remains discovered are strong evidence of early civilization in the Huaihe River Basin. There are approximately thousands of Neolithic cultural sites in Anhui and adjacent areas.

Anhui culture mainly consists of Huaihe culture, Xin'an culture, Wanjiang culture, Luzhou culture, etc.
