What is the tourist city of China’s representative sheep?

Wuyang City

Guangzhou

Many cities in China have their own nicknames. For example, Guangzhou is also known as Wuyang, Wuyang City, and Suiyuan. Why is Guangzhou called the Wuyang City? This also starts from an ancient Han folk legend.

A long time ago, there was a great famine in Guangzhou, and people had no rice for several days. But the official is like a robber, still asking for food from the people. At that time, a father and son lived at the foot of the hillside in the city. Because they could not hand over the grain, the father was arrested. The official asked the son to hand over the grain within three days, otherwise his father would be killed.

The young man was very filial, but there was nothing he could do to save his father. He was so anxious that he burst into tears. One day passed, and two days passed. His cry moved the five immortals in the sky. The immortals rode five sheep of different colors and carried ears of grain to the boy's home. They gave the ears of grain to the young man and asked him to plant the grains into the soil quickly. At dawn tomorrow, they would be able to harvest a lot of rice. They also told the young man that if he encounters difficulties in the future, he should go to the foot of the mountain to look for them. After saying this, the immortal disappeared. The young man planted the grains according to the immortal's instructions, and he harvested several large baskets of rice the next day.

Guangzhou

The young man handed over all the rice to the government. The official couldn't believe his eyes. He felt very strange, so he asked with a straight face the origin of the rice. The boy was a child after all, and under his coercion, he had no choice but to tell the truth. After hearing this, the official thought secretly: If he catches the five immortals, wouldn't he be able to make a fortune? So he released the young man and his father, and immediately ordered the officers to go to the foot of the mountain to capture the immortals.

The young man felt that something was not good, so he hurried to the foot of the mountain and told the immortals to leave quickly. The immortals nodded, thanked the young man for his care, and then told him to scatter the remaining grain seeds into the ground so that the government could not take them away and the common people could have something to eat. While they were talking, the guards arrived, and the five immortals rose into the sky. The guards had nothing to do. The five sheep brought by the immortal were left on the grass. When the guards were about to catch them, the five sheep gathered together and turned into a big stone.

Today, we can still see the five stone sheep on Yuexiu Mountain in Guangzhou. The ram in the middle holds an ear of grain in its mouth and holds its head high. However, this is not the immortal's five sheep, but the artist's masterpiece. It is said that five sheep turned into stones are in the Five Immortals Temple at the foot of Poshan Mountain. You might as well go and have a look.

This legend of the five sheep is a "prehistoric colonization story" of Guangzhou. Through "the five sheep carrying the grain and gathering in Chu Ting", it reflects that in the Western Zhou Dynasty, due to the rise of the princes, the people were in dire straits and the people of the Central Plains were in dire straits. The fact that they migrated southward with their livestock and crops expresses the ancient Guangzhou ancestors' yearning for a better life.

In addition to the legend of Wuyang, Guangzhou also has many beautiful legends. It is these beautiful legends one after another that continue the thousand-year context of Guangzhou, a heroic city. Such as:

The legend of "beating thin dogs to change the Qing Dynasty"

When the Qing Dynasty was founded, a qualified national teacher came to Guangzhou and saw Yuexiu and Baiyun. The mountain was covered with steaming clouds and fog.

He Ziyuan, a veteran of the Revolution of 1911 and the leader of Jiaying Prefecture of the Tongmenghui

The dragon's energy was soaring into the sky, and he immediately noticed the clues of the old Dragon King. He immediately sent a message to the Holy One, requesting to send troops to destroy the Dragon King. "If nothing is done, the emperor will be born one day." Since then, there has been an allusion to "cannon attack Shougouling".

However, due to the limited special funds for the bombardment of Shougouling by the court at that time, and the layer upon layer of exploitation by the officials in charge, very little money was actually spent on the idea. Every year's "bombing" is just a formality: it starts with the sound of a gong to clear the way, and ends with a few cold shots. After decades, only a few scales of the old Dragon King were injured. But in order to heal these injured dragon scales, the old Dragon King spent more than two hundred years. After his body recovered, he selected Mr. Sun Yat-sen, a talented man who was closely related to Xingmei Longxue, and secretly assigned He Ziyuan, He Tianjiong, He Gongbo, Liao Zhongkai and other princes, as well as countless people with lofty ideals across China, to assist him. , it took a lot of effort, internal cooperation and external cooperation to overthrow the Manchu dynasty and establish the Republic of China. To avenge the unjust bombardment of Shougouling...

Note: Shougouling is located in Niu Miangang outside the east gate of Guangzhou. It is a fallen soldier of the First Division of the Guangdong Army founded by Sun Yat-sen himself. The cemetery is located. It is also the resting place of He Guanzhong, the sixth brother of He Ziyuan, a veteran of the Revolution of 1911, the founder of modern education in China, and a member of the Jiaying Prefecture Alliance of the Tongmenghui. He Guanzhong, the highest-ranking senior general of the Cantonese army who died in the battle, is buried in the Cemetery of the First Division of the Cantonese Army in Shougouling. .

He Ziyuan, He Tianjiong, He Gongbo, Liao Zhongkai and other great masters are all Mr. Sun Yat-sen’s clay pot brothers. In 1905, Dr. Sun Yat-sen founded the League in Tokyo, Japan, and were the first members to join the League. Yuexiu and Baiyun Mountains were also called Guanyin Mountains in the old days, and were hailed as sacred mountains by Guangzhou people.
