Introduction to Zhuoshui Ancient Town

Zhuoshui Ancient Town is located in the southeast corner of Zhuoshui Town in the south of Qianjiang District, Chongqing City. It is located on the banks of the Apeng River, the main tributary of Wujiang River and the largest river flowing from east to west in China. It is 26 kilometers away from the main city of Qianjiang in the south, 21 kilometers away from Apengjiang Town in the north, and 26 kilometers away from Zhoubai Airport.

The streets and alleys of Zhuoshui Ancient Town are generally in the pattern of "five streets, seven lanes, three palaces and seven courtyards". The "five streets" are distributed from north to south. From south to north they are Banbian Street, Jiangxi Street, Zhong Street, Old Salt Store, Lijia Old Street; the "Seven Alleys" all run east-west, namely Zui Alley, Shui Alley, Wangjia Alley, Wantiangong Alley, Ranjian Alley, Yujia Alley, and Tanjia Alley.

The "Three Palaces" from south to north are Wantian Palace, Yuwang Palace and Wanshou Palace; the "Seven Courtyards" are distributed along the street, from south to north they are Baxian Hall, Gongjiabaoting and Yanfang. Qianzhuang, Wang Benshan's former residence, Wang's Oil Company, Guangshun Company, and Zhuoheba Lecture Hall.

In December 2014, Zhuoshui Ancient Town was rated as a national AAAA tourist attraction. On August 16, 2018, Zhuoshui Ancient Town won the title of “Chongqing’s Characteristic Landscape Tourism Town”. In December 2018, Zhuoshui Ancient Town was selected into the first Chongqing Cultural Tourism New Landmark List.

In September 2022, Zhuoshui Ancient Town was selected into the 2022 National "Intangible Cultural Heritage Tourism Town" list. On December 30, 2022, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism issued an announcement officially identifying Zhuoshui Scenic Area in Qianjiang District as a national 5A-level tourist attraction.

Development History

In the 13th year of Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1735), Geng Shouping went to Youyang to "return to the land", and the Xuanwei Division of Youyang was changed to Youyang County, under the jurisdiction of Qian Pengting and Zhuoshui belong to Sanxiang, Shangjilibei, Youyang County, and a market has emerged since then.

In the first year of Guangxu (1875), Youyang Prefecture was divided into four roads and eighteen townships, and Zhuoshui was the northern three townships of the five north roads. In the 24th year of the Republic of China (1935), Zhuoshui was transferred from Zhuohe Dam to Zhuoshui Township in the third district of Youyang County. In the twenty-sixth year of the Republic of China (1937), Zhuoshui Township was changed to Zhuoshui Town.

On July 3, 1952, Zhuoshui (formerly the 9th District of Youyang County), Lianghekou, Fengjia, Mara Lake, Xuetangping and other places were placed under Qianjiang County. In 1953, it was renamed Zhuoshui Township. In 1958, it was renamed Zhuoshui Commune. On July 30, 1985, it was renamed Zhuoshui Town.
