What does the grassland look like?
Grassland is an area dominated by herbaceous plants that can provide a living place for livestock and wild animals. It is formed by the synergistic effects of atmosphere, soil, and organisms. Among them, atmospheric temperature and precipitation dominate. China is one of the countries with the richest grassland resources in the world, with a total grassland area of ??nearly 400 million hectares, accounting for 40% of the country's total land area.
Vegetation on the grassland:
Basically they are ground bud plants, especially tufted grasses, which are the builders of the community.
Underground budding plants, such as rhizome grasses and carex, are dominant in many grasslands (light soil).
Dicotyledonous weeds are also abundant. For example, some species of Asteraceae, Leguminosae, and Rosaceae thrive in areas close to forests (with better moisture), and are dominant with grasses. They have deep root systems and store water and nutrients. The roots of some weeds in arid areas reach underground branches, reaching a depth twice as deep as grasses.
Ground bud plants (short semi-shrubs), especially in areas close to deserts, sometimes reach dominance, such as some species of the genera such as Caragana, Chrysanthemum, Artemisia, and Kochia in the Eurasian grasslands.
Trees among high-budding plants are widely distributed in tropical savannas, such as Acacia Adamsonii in Africa and eucalyptus in Oceania. They have an umbrella-shaped crown with a flat top.
Annual plants that overwinter with seeds. In grassland areas with a Mediterranean climate, there is a type of short-lived plants that often flourish in spring, such as bluegrass and tulips.
Mosses, lichens, and algae are also common groups on grasslands. They are located on the surface and only use water and nutrients on the soil surface and the surface layer of the soil.
Extended information
Distribution
1. Temperate grassland
Occurs in the interior of Eurasia, located on the outer edge of the temperate desert area. Such as China, Mongolia and Xinjiang provinces, Central Asia. Southern Europe and Russia and the foothill plains of the western United States and other places. Rainfall in this inland area mainly depends on the summer ocean monsoon and thermal convection in mid-year. The European, Russian, Ukrainian and Central Asian grasslands receive more rainfall in winter, which is provided by Mediterranean cyclones.
2. Tropical grassland
Occurs on both sides of the subtropical highs in the southern and northern hemispheres and is distributed around tropical deserts. Representative areas are the outer edge of the Sahara Desert in North Africa, southwest Asia, and southwestern North America. and Australia in the southern hemisphere.
Those located on the equator side are connected to the tropical savanna climate (Tropical Savanna Climate, Aw) in summer, with rainfall concentrated in summer, and it belongs to the summer rain type savanna (BShw). Those located on the polar side are connected to the Mediterranean climate due to the southward movement of the westerly wind belt in winter, and rainfall is concentrated in winter, forming a winter rain savannah (BShs).
