Henry W. Luce's fifth visit to China

1935 Spring, Henry W. Luce retired at the age of 67. That summer, he went to China via Japan for the last time. When the ship arrived in Shanghai, the shore was crowded with friends and colleagues who came to welcome him. This scene is completely different from the desolate scene when he first came to Shanghai 38 years ago. Then, Henry W. Luce rushed to Qingdao to attend the upcoming Shandong Presbyterian Conference. After that, he came to Jinan and visited cheeloo university. In the past 18, cheeloo university has become a very important university in Shandong and its surrounding provinces.

At Qianmen Railway Station, he was warmly welcomed by the representative of yenching university, headed by President Si Tuleideng. During his stay in Yanjing, he had several conversations with Professor Hu Shi and walked around the campus together. After that, I visited Yungang Grottoes and Guangzhou in Datong. In February of the same year, he arrived in Hong Kong, took a boat to Cambodia and then went to Thailand, Myanmar and India. 1936 Arrived in Egypt by boat from Mumbai via Suez Canal.
