China has 34 provincial-level administrative regions. We don’t compare the economy but only the tourism. Who do you think can rank first?

I can only express my own opinion on this. After all, China has a vast territory and rich resources. Every province has scenic spots. There is no unified judgment standard for which province has the best scenery. Public opinion is right, mother-in-law is right. Many people think that their hometown is the most beautiful? Let’s first make a simple comparison based on overall tourism revenue. From the figure below, we can see that the three provinces with the highest tourism revenue in China are Guangdong, Jiangsu and Shandong. This is the same as the top three provinces in the country in terms of GDP in 2018.

So tourism income does not mean that whichever scenic spot has the most and the most beautiful will earn more. This will be linked to the degree of economic development, population, per capita income, consumption level, etc. Let’s take Guangdong, which ranks first, as an example. Guangdong’s scenic spots are definitely not as many as those of Jiangsu and Shandong. However, Guangdong relies on its population and developed economy to drive the development of tourism. The large and small tourist attractions may not be as good as other tourist attractions. There are few places, so this is the reason why Guangdong’s tourism revenue can surpass other provinces. The economy is developed enough and there are consumer groups. Even if there are no scenic spots, it can create scenic spots for you.

However, if we look at the number of tourists from each province, Guizhou has the largest number of tourists, reaching 969 million in 2018. However, Guangdong, which ranks first in tourism revenue, ranks 18th in the number of tourists. It can also be seen that Guangdong’s per capita consumption expenditure far exceeds that of other provinces. Guizhou has many tourist attractions and beautiful scenery, but various tourism costs such as ticket prices and accommodation are relatively low. Therefore, although it ranks first in the total number of tourists it receives, it does not have an advantage in total tourism revenue. Since tickets for high-end amusement parks and artificial scenic spots are relatively expensive, housing prices are relatively high, and accommodation costs are high in Guangdong, so the overall tourism revenue is the highest.

If we look at high-end tourism resources such as 5A-level scenic spots, Jiangsu should rank first. There are about 250 5A scenic spots in the country, and Jiangsu has 23, ranking first in the country. Moreover, Jiangsu's transportation is also quite developed, and all supporting facilities are also very complete, so the overall tourism income ranks second in the country.

With the steady development of China's economy, more and more people are traveling, and there are more and more ways to travel such as self-driving tours, short-distance tours, walking tours, budget tours, overseas tours, etc. The tourism industry is now also a major industry, and its market size will surely continue to expand with the improvement of people's living income levels. Scientific and technological progress has replaced many people's jobs, and everyone has more time to enjoy the beautiful scenery of nature. If you prefer to be close to nature, I think Guizhou, which has developed rapidly in the past two years, is a good choice. If you want to shop while traveling, I think economically developed Guangdong and Jiangsu will be better. In short, if you want to judge who ranks first, you have to look at what standards are used to distinguish. Different standards will lead to different results.
