Among the various types of enterprises that constitute the sports tourism industry, they can be divided into direct sports tourism enterprises and indirect sports tourism enterprises. The so-called direct sports tourism enterprises refer to enterprises that rely on the existence of sports tourists for their survival. Typical representatives are sports travel agencies, transportation and communication enterprises, and hotel and catering enterprises. Those enterprises that also provide goods and services to sports tourists, but their main supply targets are not sports tourists, or the existence of sports tourists does not endanger their survival, can be called indirect sports tourism enterprises, such as the sales industry and tourism and entertainment companies fall into this category. From this we can easily see that the general view on the composition of sports tourism is based on direct sports tourism enterprises, while a more comprehensive view includes both direct sports tourism enterprises and indirect sports tourism enterprises, as well as Support various tourism organizations that develop sports tourism.

The sports tourism industry consists of the following five aspects.

1. Sports tourism catering and accommodation industry: hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, camping camps.

2. Transportation and communication industry: airlines, shipping companies, railway companies, bus/long-distance bus companies, car/aircraft leasing companies, post offices, telecommunications bureaus.

3. Travel business organization department (travel agency industry): sports tourism operators, sports tourism wholesalers/brokers, sports tourism retail agents, sports clubs.

4. Tourist venue management departments: sports theme companies, sports bases.

5. Destination tourism organization departments: National Tourism Organizations (NTOs), regional tourism organizations, sports tourism associations.

This view is called the "five major departments" theory. There are the same goals and inseparable interconnections among the five parts, which is to promote the economic development of sports tourism destinations by attracting, attracting and receiving foreign sports tourists. Although some of these components, such as tourism management organizations at all levels in sports tourism destinations, are not enterprises with the purpose of direct profit. But they play an important supporting role in promoting and expanding the profitability of the commercial operating sector.
