Do I need a visa to go to Nepal?

1. Chinese citizens holding diplomatic or official passports who go to Nepal with a stay period of no more than one month are exempt from visa requirements.

Citizens of Nepal and China who hold valid diplomatic and official passports are mutually exempt from visas to each other's country, and the maximum stay is 30 days. This provision also includes family members and minor children accompanying the holder of a diplomatic or service passport. This new regulation is implemented in accordance with the agreement reached between Nigeria and China on August 15, 2005. Both parties will implement this new regulation starting from October 11, 2006.

2. Individual Chinese residents traveling to Nepal need to apply for a tourist visa, but there is no visa fee.

In December 2015, Nepal announced that in order to thank China for its help since the earthquake in Nepal in April, it would grant visa-free treatment to Chinese citizens traveling to Nepal.

3. Chinese residents need to apply for business visas and student visas for personal business, study abroad and other matters.

For business visas, student visas and residence visas, please consult the applicant’s local organizer in Nepal or the Immigration Bureau in Kathmandu.

4. Anyone traveling to a third country via Nepal must apply for a visa regardless of the length of stay or whether they leave the airport.

On August 9, 1983, the Nepalese Embassy informed: Nepal does not have transit visas. When Chinese personnel need to transit, the Nepali Embassy issues entry visas. For this reason, the Nepali Embassy requires the Chinese side to write "please issue... an entry visa" in the note or official letter when applying for a Nepali transit visa in the future.
