Central Range in English.
The main mountain ranges on the island of Taiwan run north-south and are formed by three main mountain ranges. From east to west they are the Central Mountains, the Yushan Mountains and the Alishan Mountains. The Central Mountain Range runs through the island of Taiwan and is about 320 kilometers (199 miles) long and 80 kilometers (50 miles) wide. There are 62 peaks with a height of more than 3,000 meters (9,850 feet), of which 22 are more than 3,500 meters (10,480 feet). ), the highest peak is Yushan, with an altitude of 3,952 meters (12,966 feet). The mountain range is mainly composed of schist, quartzite and gneiss. The east side is abruptly cut off by the Taitung Rift Valley, and the west side descends into gentler mountains before gradually submerging into the fertile plains on the west coast. The Alishan Mountains are mostly faulted, causing depressions in the stratigraphic structure. Sun Moon Lake (where a hydroelectric power plant is built) is one of them. The Central Mountain Range has high annual rainfall, usually exceeding 3,800 mm (150 inches), and is the birthplace of Zhuoshui Creek, Dajia Creek, Gaoping Creek and Xinwulu Creek. The foothills are covered by broadleaf forests, the mountainside is mostly mixed forests, and the high mountains between 1,800 and 2,400 meters (6,000 and 8,000 feet) are covered by coniferous forests. The mountainous area is sparsely populated, with only a few indigenous people living scattered there. The Central Mountains are located in the collision zone between the Pacific Plate and the Asian Plate. It is one of the youngest crustal activity zones on earth and has frequent earthquakes.
It is located in the east-central part of the main island of Taiwan Province, China. Nearly north-south. It starts from Dong'ao Ridge near Su'ao in Yilan County in the north and reaches Eluanbi at the southernmost tip of Taiwan Island in the south. It runs from north to south of the main island of Taiwan, with a total length of 330 kilometers and a width of 80 kilometers from east to west. It has continuous peaks, including Nanhu Mountain (3740 meters). , Central Guan Mountain, Qilai Mountain, Green Mountain, Hehuan Mountain, Neng Gaoshan, Xiuguluan Mountain, Guan Mountain, Beinan Main Mountain (3293 meters) and Beidawu Mountain (3090 meters), etc., all with altitudes above 3200 meters above sea level. The Central Mountain Range runs through the center of the island and is known as the "Roof of Taiwan". It divides the island into two asymmetric halves, the smaller in the east and the larger in the west. The terrain in the east is steep, while the west is wider and gentler. It has become the watershed of various water systems on the island.
Qicaihu Dayu Ridge on the east side of the main ridge of the Central Mountain Range is a pass on the ridgeline of the Central Mountain Range, known as the "Roof of Taiwan". It was formerly known as Hehuan Pass. It is located in the saddle of the Green and Hehuan Mountains, with an altitude of At 2,565 meters, it is the highest point of the main line of Zhongheng Highway and the intersection point of Zhongheng Highway and the Central Mountains, as well as the main line of Zhongheng Highway and Wushe Branch. Standing in the peaceful Dayuling Villa, looking around at the majestic mountains, you will not only feel proud to have crossed the majestic roof of Taiwan, but also marvel at the majestic mountain scenery of the beautiful island.
From Dayu Ridge to the north, across the 3379-meter Green Mountain and the 3449-meter Wuming Mountain, there are two famous peaks with an altitude of more than 3700 meters, namely, one of the "Three Peaks", Central Jianshan and "Zhongjianshan". Nanhu Mountain is one of the "Five Mountains".
Zhongyangguan Mountain is 3,703 meters above sea level. It is entirely composed of disintegrated shale. It is surrounded by collapse and covered with hard conglomerate. It has a sharp-edged spire and a triangular cone-shaped peak, like a towering mountain. The pyramid on the central mountain range is so steep and straight that it is known as the highest point on the island. Nanhu Mountain is 3,740 meters above sea level. It is the fifth highest peak in Taiwan Island and the third highest peak in the Central Mountain Range. It is majestic and majestic. It is surrounded by seven secondary peaks above 3,650 meters, collectively known as the "Nanhu Peaks". Since Nanhu Mountain is located to the south of Lanyang Valley, it is affected by the northeast monsoon and cold current, causing heavy snowfall. It is the area with the deepest snow in Taiwan in winter, and is also one of the areas with the most developed glacial terrain in Taiwan.
From Dayu Ridge to the south, there are many peaks over 3,000 meters on the ridgeline of the Central Mountain Range. Among them, Hehuan Mountain, Qilai Mountain, and Nenggao Mountain are all famous mountains in Taiwan. The Hehuan Peaks are located in the southwest of Dayu Ridge, where the ridgeline of the central mountain range makes a westward turn. Southeast of Hehuan Mountain is the Qicai Mountain Range, which includes seven or eight peaks above 3,000 meters. The highest Qicai North Peak is 3,605 meters above sea level and is one of the "Top Ten Mountains" in Taiwan. Qi Lai Mountain is famous for its steep mountains. Since 1971, there have been many deaths and disappearances of climbers here, so some people call it "Black Qi Lai". Despite this, due to the strange rocks here, tall pines and cypresses, sunrise and sunset, flying clouds and flowing rain, as well as the clear and mirror-like Qilai Tianchi dotted here, the scenery is wonderful and infinite. Therefore, more and more people are visiting Mount Qilai despite the dangers and hardships.
Nōtaka Mountain to the south of the Qirai Mountain Range is famous for its dangerous cliffs and beautiful forest ravines. It is a legendary mountain. It is said that there was a young man named Neng who was strong, capable, brave and upright. Once, Neng saved a fisherman girl named Tarin from the seaside and won the girl's love. Later, in order to solve the people's problems, Neng broke through the dark clouds that would never dissipate like a big quilt covering the blue sky and the sun, and turned into a thousand-foot-high mountain. Tarin missed Neng, nestled at the foot of the mountain and cried heartbrokenly. Her tears turned into a snow-white waterfall. Later, people called the mountain Neng Gaoshan and the waterfall Tarin Waterfall. There are several steep and varied cliffs in the Nenggao Mountain area, with valleys and gorges alternating with moist valleys, and waterfalls hanging down. The scenery is very quiet. The Tianchang cliffs, mountains and seas of clouds, Nenggao residual snow, as well as the nearby green grasslands and beautiful alpine lakes are all famous scenic spots.
The peaks of Hehuan Mountain all reach an altitude of more than 3,000 meters. The mountains are high and the air is cold. Although it is located on a tropical island, it is a snowfall area in winter. There are many not-so-steep slopes here. Among all the snowy mountains in Taiwan, only Huihuan Mountain is suitable for skiing. Therefore, Hehuan Mountain is more famous than the Qilai Mountain peaks on its east side.
The snow on Hehuan Mountain is one of the wonders of the island. These peaks are located in the intersection zone of moist airflow. The Pacific airflow introduced from Liwu Creek and the northeasterly wind blowing from Lanyang Creek bring abundant water vapor, which flows in the Hehuan Mountains. When the cold current hits in winter, the water vapor is cold, and the Hehuan Mountains become cold. Snowflakes are flying. The gentle slopes allow snow to be accumulated layer by layer (unlike the snow in Yushan, which is easily blown away by the wind or slowly "flows" down the steep slopes), forming good skiing conditions.
The best ski resort is "Hehuan Valley", located between the main peak, East Peak and Hehuanjian Mountain. Surrounded by three mountains, one side is open, the gentle slopes at the bottom of the valley are vast, and the ski trails are hundreds of meters long.
On the north slope of Hehuan East Peak on the side of Hehuan Valley, there is a two-story building called "Songxue Tower". The building is very luxurious and beautiful. It was originally a guest house of the forestry department and is now the ski training base office of the Taiwan Ski Association. To the east of Songxuelou is Taiwan's only ski-specific cable car, which goes from high to low, with a vertical distance (not length) of 150 meters. Skiers who ski down the slope can take the cable car back to the top of the mountain to save energy.
Since Hehuan Mountain is the gateway to Qilai Mountain and a ski resort, the number of tourists has increased year by year. Therefore, the forestry department built a "Hehuan Villa" on the south side of Hehuanjian Mountain in 1970. It can accommodate more than a hundred people. Guests are responsible for everything on their own, and the villa does not charge any fees. This is the only "self-service hotel" built on the main ridge of the Central Mountain Range in Taiwan.
Climbing Hehuan Mountain in winter has become a very "popular" tourist activity and mountaineering sport in Taiwan in recent years. Climbing up to the valley between Hehuan Mountain and Dayu Mountain, there is a difficult valley. The wind is strong and the slope is steep, so you often have to crawl forward to get through. The old name here is "Guimen Pass", and now it is renamed "Overcoming Difficulties". Climbers would love to give it a try to test their physical strength and willpower.
If you want to see the snow scenery, Wuling on the side of Songxue Tower is the best place. There, you can see the crystal-clear peaks in winter, the tall and straight coniferous forests still as green as spring, and the vibrant and jade-like mountains. People are more energetic and full of vitality.
