What proof is required for a tourist visa to the United States?
Business and Tourist Visa
The B1 visa is issued to applicants who come to the United States to engage in short-term business activities, including negotiating and signing contracts, participating in exhibitions or conferences, short-term training, or working with suppliers or Negotiating business with customers, etc. B2 visas are issued to applicants for travel to the United States, including sightseeing, visiting relatives and friends, and medical treatment. Holders of B1 and B2 visas cannot be employed in the United States.
Applicants for B1 and B2 visas must be able to prove that: (1) their intention is to enter the United States only temporarily; (2) their purpose is only for tourism and/or short-term business activities; (3) the applicant does not Willing to give up property in the country.
According to U.S. immigration law, applicants are obliged to prove to the visa officer that they meet the conditions for obtaining a B1/B2 visa. Therefore, it is up to the applicant to decide for himself the strongest supporting information and materials to support his or her visa application. Specific and reasonable plans during the stay in the United States, proof of permanent employment, meaningful business activities or asset status, and strong family and social ties in the country can more strongly support B1/B2 visa applications.
All B1/B2 visa applicants should be prepared in advance to be able to present the following materials and any other supporting materials related to the visa application at the interview:
Valid passport: A B1/B2 visa applicant’s passport must be valid for at least six months longer than the applicant’s expected period of departure from the United States. If your passport will be valid for less than six months when you plan to leave the United States, or your passport is damaged, or it no longer has a blank visa issuance page, please apply for a new passport before coming for your interview.
One photo: A 5 x 5 cm square color frontal photo with a white background taken within 6 months. Please glue the photo onto the printed confirmation page of the DS-160 electronic visa application form. See photo requirements for details.
Original receipt for visa application fee: You can pay the visa application fee of US$140 (RMB 938) or US$150 (RMB 1,005) at any branch of CITIC Bank in China.

Evidence that shows why you must return to China: Provide financial, social, family or other documents that are binding on you to help you prove your intention to return to China after a short stay in the United States. Due to different personal circumstances, the evidence that applicants should produce will also vary. The following documents can help the visa officer evaluate whether you intend to return to China: household register, ID card, employment certificate, pay stub that objectively reflects your monthly income, bankbook with normal and regular deposit and withdrawal records, etc.
Invitation letter: If you are invited to visit a resident of the United States, it will be helpful for your application to provide the following information: invitation information, purpose of visit to the United States, and pre-arranged travel schedule. If you are simply traveling to the United States, you do not need to present an invitation letter.
If you are traveling to the United States for business: Please consider bringing the following information to your interview: where you will be visiting, who you will meet, what will be discussed during the meeting, and what products you plan to purchase in the United States. The following documents may be helpful to the application: a detailed invitation letter issued by the U.S. partner stating the applicant’s purpose of visiting the United States; a contract or other agreement signed with the U.S. partner; machines, software or other equipment to be tested or purchased in the United States Information related to the equipment, such as product brochures or product catalogs, etc.
If you go to the United States to visit relatives: You should provide materials to prove that you have a real and uninterrupted relationship with the inviter. You should also consider providing their status after entering or immigrating to the United States. The following documents may be helpful to your application: household register or other documents that can prove true kinship, photos taken with relatives in the United States in recent years, copies of relatives’ U.S. passports or green cards, and copies of passports of relatives staying in the United States for a short period of time. And a copy of the US visa, etc. If you were last in the United States longer than the date stated on your I-94 card upon entry, please present the original Department of Homeland Security-approved extension certificate at your interview.
Please note that the above materials are not exhaustive, and presenting the above documents during the interview does not ensure that you will obtain a visa. You must be prepared in advance so that you can reasonably explain the purpose of your visit to the United States and reasons for returning to your country during the interview, and provide relevant evidence to support your statements.
