Tourist transportation in Ghent

As one of the largest cities in Belgium, Ghent’s transportation system is very developed.

It only takes 45 minutes from the international airport of Zaventem to the center of Ghent, with flights to more than 70 destinations.

In addition, it takes 70 minutes to get to Ghent from Brussels South/Charleroi airport.

Railway

It is very convenient to travel to Ghent from other cities in Belgium and major European cities by train, and it only takes half a train ride from Brussels South Station. Ghent can be reached in an hour. Thanks to the high-speed Eurostar, tourists can travel from Ghent to Paris in just 2 hours, and to Amsterdam and Cologne in less than 3 hours.

Driving

Ghent is located at the intersection of two major European motorways. The E17 motorway connects southern Ghent to Northern Europe; and the E40 crosses the North Sea from the North Sea. Traveling through eastern Europe, you can reach Bruges and Ostend in the west.

Public buses and trams

Ghent’s public transportation will not be interfered by private transportation, so it is relatively more convenient and faster. Tourists can buy bus cards or tram cards at newsstands or supermarkets, so that they can enjoy a 50% discount on fares when taking the bus. On Fridays and Saturdays, you can catch the free overnight bus. Six lines cover the entire Ghent area.

Museum Card

This is a special transportation card. You only need to spend 20 euros to take a bus to visit all the museums and memorials in Ghent. What's more, with this card you can travel for free on all De Lijn buses and trams. The card is valid for three days.
