Why did the United States bomb Iran?
The main reason is the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
Cause:
1. Islamic Revolution:
In p>1951, mohammad mosaddegh became the elected prime minister of Iran, nationalizing the oil resources occupied by the United States and Britain and turning them over to Iranians.
Britain and the United States can't let their own interests be harmed in vain. Therefore, the British MI 6 and the US Central Intelligence Agency jointly instigated an "Ajax Operation", which successfully overthrew the then President mossadegh in 1953 and brought King Pahlavi back to power.
Pahlavi announced the implementation of the "White Revolution" after taking office, carried out reforms according to the blueprint of the United States, suppressed domestic religious forces at the same time, and signed the extraterritorial rights of American military personnel in Iran.
At that time, Tehran had become a metropolis of western culture, with westernized women's clothes and Coca-Cola billboards standing everywhere. This has caused great dissatisfaction among ethnic and religious people.
A large-scale mass movement against the king broke out in Iran, and the government dispatched military and police to suppress it. In Tehran, tens of thousands of demonstrators were killed.
In p>1979, religious leaders launched an Islamic revolution, large-scale demonstrations and strikes were held all over the country, traffic was interrupted, the Iranian military declared its neutrality, Pahlavi was forced into exile, and the Pahlavi dynasty fell.
2. The United States and Iran broke off diplomatic relations
On April 1, 1979, Khomeini announced that he had changed his name to Iran Islamic Republic. A referendum was held and a system of integrating politics with religion was established.
In October of the same year, the news that exiled King Pahlavi went to the United States to treat lymphoma was sent back to China. Angry Muslims in Tehran stormed the American Embassy and detained the embassy staff. Since then, the United States has broken diplomatic relations with Iran.
The hostage crisis began on November 4th, 1979 and lasted for 444 days until January 2th, 1981.
The film Escape from Tehran is about this Iranian hostage crisis.
Extended information:
US sanctions against Iran:
Reuters said that in order to curb Iran's missile and nuclear programs and weaken Iran's influence in the Middle East, Trump announced his withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal in May, restarted sanctions on Iran's non-energy sector in August, and now announced new sanctions, trying to make Iran finally yield with a series of "combination boxing".
The U.S. Treasury Department issued a notice saying that sanctions will be imposed on more than 7 individuals, entities, planes and ships involved in Iran's finance, shipping, aviation, energy and other fields from the 5th, including 5 Iranian banks and their branches at home and abroad, Iran's state-owned airlines, 67 aircraft under its control and Iran's Atomic Energy Agency.
The sanctions focus on Iranian oil exports. Iran's oil reserves rank fourth in the world, and it is the third largest oil producer in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries after Saudi Arabia and Iraq. According to Trump, the sanctions are to "force Iran's oil export income to zero" to limit Iran's involvement in Yemen, Syria and other countries and force Iran to agree to renegotiate the nuclear issue.
In addition, US Secretary of State Pompeo announced on the 5th that the United States will temporarily allow eight countries or regions to continue to buy Iranian oil after US sanctions against Iran. These countries or regions include: China, Indian, Italian, Greek, Japanese, Korean, Turkish and Taiwan Province, China. The exemption period is only 18 days and will not be extended after its expiration.
It is also reported that in order to show his lofty image, when Trump announced the new sanctions against Iran, he imitated the "Winter is Coming" bridge of American TV series Game of Thrones and posted a poster on Twitter. In the picture, he came from the layers of fog, with the words "sanctions are coming, November 5".
In response, HBO, the producer of Game of Thrones, quickly declared that it "does not want the trademark to be used for political purposes". Next, American netizens took turns to draw "the lawsuit is coming" and "Miller is coming" with the same base map (note: Miller is the special prosecutor responsible for investigating the Trump team's "TongRumen"), and even "prison is coming".
