The history of Hainan Tropical Botanical Garden

Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden, affiliated to the Tropical Spice and Beverage Crops Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences of the Ministry of Agriculture (a division-level scientific research unit and a national key research institute), is located in Xinglong, southeast of Hainan Island (18°1′ north latitude, 110°13′ east longitude), covering an area of ??600 acres, and was founded in 1957. The botanical garden has superior climatic conditions, a typical tropical monsoon climate, with well-developed natural vegetation. It is surrounded by mountains and rivers, with beautiful scenery, lush green sea, chirping birds, and faint fruity fragrance. The fresh world is refreshing and unforgettable.

In the 1980s, it became a famous tourist attraction in Hainan. In 1985, French experts came to our institute to conduct technical exchanges with scientific and technological personnel.

In 1991, it was registered with the National Tourism Administration as a major tourist spot and is a designated tourism unit of Hainan Province.

In 1998, it was selected as a famous scenic spot in my country by four units including the National Tourism Association, and was also selected as an outstanding tourist attraction in Hainan.

On January 15, 1998, Estonian Speaker Thomas Savi led members of the parliament to visit the botanical garden.

On May 15, 1999, Francisco Francoli, Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, accompanied by Chen Chuanmin, Director of the Hainan Provincial Tourism Bureau, visited the Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden. I happily planted a wine bottle coconut in the botanical garden and named it "WTO".
