Historical background of Yancheng:

Historians and archaeologists have different opinions about the origin and owner of Yancheng, and it is still inconclusive. One said that Yancheng was Xia Jie's detached palace, the other said that Yancheng was the capital of the late Shang Dynasty and the early Zhou Dynasty, and Yanjun was the national monarch east of Qufu, Shandong Province at that time.

According to legend, Yan Jun was a monarch who colluded with Wu Geng, a descendant of Shang Dynasty, to launch a rebellion in Zhou Chengwang. After being destroyed by Zhou Chengwang, the remnants fled from Shandong to the south of the Yangtze River, digging a river as a graben and piling up soil as a city, which is still called "election". In ancient times, the word "Yan" with three points of water was common with the word "Xuan" without three points of water, and it has been passed down to this day, hence the name "Yancheng".

On the other hand, at the end of the Spring and Autumn Period, Ji Zha, the son of Wu, was dissatisfied with He Lv's assassination of Liao Wang to seize the throne. He was determined to break away from He Lu's violent politics and "never enter Wu", so he built a city in Yanling to dig a river and seal a city to show his determination to stay for a long time. The state was named "Yancheng". Of course, the owner of Yancheng is Ji Zha.
