Suggested route from Zhangye to Qinghai Lake:

Starting from Zhangye, take National Highway 227 (the highway from Xining to Zhangye, called Zhang Ning Highway), pass Minle County on Qilian Mountain, pass the border ferry, reach Qilian County in Qinghai, pass Ebo Town and Qingshizui Town, pass Dabanshan Mountain, pass Datong County, and reach Xining City. Don't get off the expressway, directly turn to G6 Expressway (Beijing-Tibet Expressway), cross Huangyuan County, cross Sun Moon Mountain, turn to 109 National Highway (old Qinghai-Tibet Highway) in Daotanghe Town, and walk west for about 50 kilometers, which is the main attraction of Qinghai Lake.

All the way is either the national highway or expressway, and the road conditions are very good.
