Introduction to tourism economics

Around the world, tourism is becoming an important lifestyle and socioeconomic activity in modern human society. Since the 1950s, mass tourism has maintained a strong momentum of development and has rapidly developed into an important pillar industry in the world economy after the oil, automobile and real estate industries.

Although my country's tourism industry started late, it has developed rapidly and made remarkable achievements. Since my country implemented the reform and opening up policy in 1978, in just over 20 years, my country has developed from a small tourism country ranked 41st in the world to a major tourism country ranked 6th in the world, and is gradually moving towards the world's top tourism power. my country's tourism industry is developing the fastest among all countries in the world at the same time, with an average annual growth rate of nearly 20%. Especially since 1986, when tourism was officially included in the national economic planning system, my country's tourism economy has developed rapidly. In 1998, the country listed tourism as a new growth point for the national economy. So far, most provinces, cities, and regions across the country have Tourism has been listed as a pillar industry or key industry for local economic development and given priority for development.

Tourism economics is a discipline that studies the economic phenomena, economic relationships and tourism economic development laws that occur in tourism activities.

The development of the tourism industry has promoted the improvement of tourism education; and the improvement of tourism education standards has become a driving force for the development of the tourism industry. After 10 years of exploration and efforts in our country, the construction of tourism higher education teaching materials has begun to take shape. However, with the development of the tourism industry, some tourism textbooks lag behind the development of the industry, and the problems of outdated theories and outdated materials are revealed. The release of this book hopes to make up for this a little bit.

With the support and help of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press and colleagues, the book "Tourism Economics" edited and published by me a few years ago has received certain praise after several rounds of teaching practice. . In view of the development of my country's tourism industry, research on tourism economic theory needs to not only elaborate on the basic laws of tourism economy, but also continuously track and summarize the operation and development of my country's tourism economy, and reflect this into the construction of the discipline. Therefore, this time, with the support and assistance of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press, I revised the book "Tourism Economics". The revised "Tourism Economics" presents the following characteristics:

1. Comprehensive content, compact and concise structure. The eleventh chapter of the book covers all macro and micro aspects of tourism economy.

2. Use the theories and methods of Western economics and socialist economics, combined with the unique laws of tourism economic operation, to comprehensively and systematically expound the basic theories and methods of tourism economics.

3. Pay attention to the combination of theory and practice, and strengthen quantitative analysis and demonstration on the basis of qualitative research, so that it has strong theoretical, scientific and practical nature.

4. There is a certain breakthrough in the existing tourism economics teaching material system. The language expression is easy to understand. It can not only be used for teaching tourism majors and related majors in colleges and universities, but also can be used as a guide for higher vocational tourism education. It is also a professional textbook for self-study examinations and has important reference value for those engaged in tourism economic research and practice.

Due to the limited level of the author, there are still omissions and deficiencies in the book, and readers are kindly requested to criticize and correct them.
