Beigang chaotian temple
Located in Yimin Road, Beigang Town, Yunlin County. This palace is also called Beigang Mazu Tempel because it is dedicated to Mazu. In the thirty-third year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1694), a small shrine was built in Beigang, dedicated to the statue of Mazu from Meizhou Island, Putian City, Fujian Province, which was the foundation stone of the Chaotian Palace in Beigang. After that, it was easy to make tiles, and it was repaired and expanded several times. In the 31st year of Guangxu (1905), it collapsed due to the earthquake. In the thirty-fourth year of Guangxu (1908), it was rebuilt and became today's scale. The Chaotian Palace is a palace-style building in China, which is divided into four entrances-the gate, the main hall, the Cihang Hall and the Notre Dame Hall. There is a square in front of the mountain gate, with stone walls and stone buildings. The mountain gate is divided into left, middle and right doors. The door in the middle is the mountain gate. There is a pair of dragon stone pillars and stone lions in front of the gate, which are called Dragon Humen. There are a pair of stone shields under the platform, and all three doors are carved and decorated. The main hall is dedicated to Mazu, so it is also called Mazu Notre Dame Hall, with a depth of13m, a three-story roof and glazed tiles. There is a compartment on the east and west sides, which is dedicated to the queen, the owner of the land and the gods. Cihang Hall, also known as Zhongshi, is dedicated to the people of Cihang Road (that is, Guanyin in Buddhism). The left room is the Sanjie office, dedicated to the emperors of the Three Dynasties, and the right room is the Wu Wenchang Hall, dedicated to Wu Wenchang. Later, it was the parents' hall dedicated to Mazu's parents and the first mountain hall dedicated to the abbots of past dynasties. Because of its strong religious atmosphere and numerous cultural relics, Chaotian Palace was designated as a tourist area of religious relics in Taiwan Province Province in 1972, and was designated as a second-class monument by the authorities of Taiwan Province Province in 1985.
