Dianshan Lake, located at the junction of Qingpu District of Shanghai and Kunshan City of Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, with a total area of 62-63 square kilometers, is the largest freshwater lake in Shanghai. Dianshan Lake is the source of Huangpu River, the mother river of Shanghai. The upper reaches of Dianshan Lake receive the water from Wujiang area of Taihu Lake and flow into the lake through 24 river ports, such as Jishui Port, Dazhushe and Baishifan. It flows into Huangpu River through the blocked East-West River and the inclined pond.

Name evolution
Dianshan Lake was formed by the connection of ancient Diao Lake and Gu Lake in Song Dynasty, so there was no name of Dianshan Lake in the book before Song Dynasty. "Shanghai Place Names" contains: In the Northern Song Dynasty, Dianshan Lake was called because there were Dianshan Mountain in the lake, and Xue Dian Lake was called because there were Dianshan Mountain and Xue Shan beside the lake.
Shao Xi (1190-1194) in the Southern Song Dynasty recorded Xue Dian Lake in the Annals of Yun Jian. In Yuan Dynasty, Yang Wei had a poem named Dianshan Lake, and in Song Dynasty, Jinshi Wei Jing had a poem named Dianshan Lake. Until the Qing Dynasty, Xue Dian Lake and Dianshan Lake were usually used together. Qing Guangxu years "Qingpu County Records Volume IV Underwater" 1 144, "Xue Dian Lake. (A Dianshan Lake) is in the west of the county seat.
In the Qing Dynasty, Wang Chang had a poem called "Climbing the Lake after Rain and Looking at Lake Xue Dian". The Guangxu edition of Qingpu County Records says: "Xue Dian Lake is in the west of the county, and there are mountains in it. Originated from the Baimian River in Wujiang River, it comes through Jishui Port and is hundreds of miles around. "
It also includes "Dianshan Mountain", which is a tidal sand deposit in Shui Xin after the Song Dynasty, and has gradually become a reclamation field. At the beginning of the Yuan Dynasty, the lake was more than five miles northwest of Shanxi. "After the establishment of People's Republic of China (PRC), the general information was called Dianshan Lake, but the name of Xue Dian Lake remained.
